What is the white wire on the battery used for?

The white wire is used by the charging circuit for cell balancing,a great safety feature and it will help the battery pack to stay healthy

Yeah! With this white wire, each battery can be charged separately.

For balanced charging, 2 cells - 3 wires , 3 cells - 4 wires,...

That's what it's for alright, but I've heard from a reliable source that neither the charger or the heli use that white balancing wire for anything...

My 2nd battery is a TP820, and it has no center tap. Still runs and fills fine with the stock charger. Matter of fact, when I switched everything to the JST connectors, I cut the stock battery wire as well. Still left access to be able to check balance though.

I made an extension using the readily available 2 pin connectors.
I left the white wire unconnected.
Neither the charger or the helicopter knows the difference.
I did some checks and could not prove that the stock charger was doing any form of load balancing via the white wire.
I also found that both cells discharge pretty much equally. This is nice to know.

With the new connectors, I now have the option to use my Triton or the stock charger.
Originally I thought the Triton was doing a better job of charging the packs. This wouldn't have surprised me as the stock charger needs to more "Idiot Proof". Lately I have noticed that both chargers do an equally good job of charging.
Using the common connectors also makes it more convenient to get additional battery packs.

Hey Ray! You do know that you were my "reliable source", right?

I did compare the triton to the stock charger and found no difference (at least with my single pt data set).

Update- After ~15 charges, the TP 820 pack ($30 list) is still choice!
