8411 sucess

Bill,

I have 6 servos 8411 in 2 flying helis and another 4 for another project not ready yet. In my flying machines I have in one 48 flights and in the second 40 flights...... both machines gassers so averange tank 28 minutes per flight...... that is a lot. I never had a single problem with the 8411 they are working like champs and my mechanics are very smoth.... no binding and no resistance from swatch..... the only resistance is for the aerodynamics. I just hope I don't have to change my opinion regarding the 8411..... it will cost my a fortune in servos and not to mentioned on the heli.

I spoke several times with Horizon regarding this issue and they said
the 8411 are perfectly save. I buy tons of stuff from Horizon so I am one of their prefer customer as they said. My Horizon rep is Melissa Vessell and you can reach her at 800-338-4639 or mvessell@horizonhobby.com

Regards,

Gonzalo

P.S. I think is time to sent an email to Curtis Y. to see what he says?

I guess my question is not so much about the servos I'm holding. After all I put NEW, never opened, never flown servos in the heli after the roll servo failed. I have no reason to doubt these particual servos. My question is more about the 8411's overall reliabliity. I will certainly return the servo that failed and while I'm at it I send in the other two but I have replaced them with the same type servo and that scares me.

Gonzalom,

If I've done the math right your high time machine is 48 flights at about 30 min/flight.... so 24 hours flight time? Can anyoue top this?

I hear Curtis flys 8-10 flights per day(!). Does anyone know if he has had servos fail? How long does he fly them before replacing them? At 10 min a flight that is about 8 hours a week or about 190 hours in 6 months. At that rate you must have a preventive maintance progam right?

I went flying this morning after posting and all went well.... Three new servo's that are, for the moment, working fine. Now if I can just work out that little lean spot in my .50SX-H... and find a new pair of 600N V-Blades!

Lets be real here. If Curtis had 8411's fail and came out and said it, it would pretty much close down that line of servos with Horizon wouldn't it?
I mean, having all these failures, then the man comes along and says he's had them too, Horizon may as well just throw the rest of their stock in the bin and move on wouldn't you think?

I don't think you'll get much from Curtis on this subject.

Secret Squirrel,

All of what you suggested is true. I don't expect him skip a flight so he can post on RunRyder he's loosing 3 heli's a week to 8411's. That would be just plain bad business for both him and JR.

On the other hand I assume he's a pretty nice guy and if asked about his servo reliabliity, he would not tell a straight lie. Further, I don't WANT him to tell me they are failing! Just the oppisite. I want him to tell me he is getting 400 hours on them and then changes them on time, not failure. I want him to tell me he flys his heli's hard and often and changes servos once a year just to be safe. One last note. Curts, Jason, Todd B... don't fly in a vacume. In fact they do a lot of their flying in front of MANY people. If they all fly 8411's (and they don't) and noone has seen them crash due to servo failure,.. that's a pretty good endorcment.

I know some JR sponsered airplane pilots that fly 8411s. I think I'll give 'em a call. Don't know why I didn't think of this sooner.

Well said Bill...... can you imagine flying all the time in front of so many people as Curtis does with servos that are not reliable??? the question is for how many hours the 8411 can last.

I would ask Curtis today and report the results.

I'm positive the only reason my parts were replace is because they were almost entirely JR, I think Horizon really only would had to of stood behind the servo, I think the parts were a thank you for flying JR products. The Rep's I spoke with were Derik and Eban.

8411sa

I have 7 gallons on my Vigor Cs. The 8411's have been awesome. I have been very carefull about binding. That means I have taken the steps to modify the head and never turn the radio on with the blade in the holder.
I have been watching the posts on this servo since they came out. I have seen allot of bad things. My question is. When should this sevo be sent in for service? Lets face it all good things dont last forever.
Come on Horizon dont drop the ball now, Futaba and MA are right on your tail!
