e-Align T-REX 250-450-500-600 > Kinda feels good to get it out of the way !!

Well, after a few weeks of flying, it was bound to happen. Had my first little miss hap and introduced T-Rex to mother earth. Atleast now I have an idea of what she can take, and won't be as worried about doing it again ( which I will ). Still it was worth it. Had a micro for a year and barely got it outside, had T-Rex for 2 months and this was my 4th flight already.... woohooo I'LL BE BACK !!!

Canopy - shot, along with mounts...
Servo tray cracked/split - fixed with glue
Lost z-bend rod - should be able to fix with retro kit
Aluminum landing gear - slight bend but no damage
Servo - mount a little damaged but usable ( atleast till I test )
Baldes - hehe, GONE !! - but have replacement

I haven't noticed anything else, but I guess when I spool up to test, I will see if anything else was bent or damaged. All in all, I am pretty impressed. I was flying and did a flat spin, then lost orientation in the background. Was just able to correct enough to make a perfect nose dive landing :P . Should be very little cost... Strong bird !!!

How do you like our BlueBirds? I have HS56s on mine now but I have another Rexy waiting to be assembled and Bluebirds to go all the way around.

I hate when the planet gets in the way of my flying too.

Update....

So far I really like the Bluebirds. I main reason for using them was to save wait. They appear to perform ok, although I am just starting out.

I my determination to fly, I think I have her altogether and ready to test .
I fixed everthing but the canopy mounts ( glued the canopy, not pretty but will balance the heli ). I drilled a small hole just to the inside of the existing mount holes on each side. Then took an old cf flybar ( from pic fun ) and slid it through ( cut to length to mimic original length of mounts ). Then I took some nylon bushings and slid then over each end and slid them tight to the frame ( snug fit holds well ). This created the rod I needed. But the canopy would have a tendancy to squeeze in a little since nothing was stopping it which caused some rubbing. So I added another bushing to both ends, and slid them about 3/8 of an inch on. Now it holds the canopy perfectly. Quick an easy fix for people that have some old parts lying around. Should be easy to replace as well.

Hope to perform a test spool up in a little while to see if there are any hidden issues.

Johnny

I'd check the main shaft and spindle... Those seem to bend any time your blades touch something.

I've wiped out 3 sets of blades so far (must stop trimming out in the back garden ) and have yet to bend a feathering spindle or mainshaft - they seem plenty tough, unlike the tail blade grips which shed their balls at the slightest knock Still worth checking though.

I love the aluminum landing gear, I am sure I have avoided many tail boom strikes on a hard landing, as the alum gear take the shock and bend, I just bend em back and take off again ...

I agree dartos - the aluminum gear are great. I snapped a couple of the stock ones for what felt like not too much and then went with those. They've been holding up well and just need some tweaking now and again. I've got the RCHover ones - those are the only Rex ones out right now, right? I suppose you could drill some mount holes in others (probably Shogun - aren't the "Rex" RCHovers the same with extra holes?)

Final update, she is back up and running... final cost ... less than 20$ . Will have to replace canopy for nice clean ( un-cracked :P ) finish, and I had to replace the spindel shaft. Funny thing is, it tracks better now after this crash then when I first put it together.

Johnny

Anyone else having a pain trying to undo screws that were locktite on. The head assembly is not coming off ( screw stripped ) my shaft. Will have to replace all together next major crash. Have Walt's upgrade shaft, so not worried about it. Will drill out the screw to salvage a backup shaft.

The R48 threadlock provided in the kit does seem a little strong, I've got a similar problem with the tail rotor hub. the supplied Allen keys are poor quality and don't help the situation, I used a quality set after rounding off one of the included keys and it removed the screw okay.

I've started to use a blue threadlock I have which isn't so strong and haven't had any fittings back out yet.
