Just for my curiosity, what is your opinion, would it be worth to save 50g
on an ION kit by using a hollow main shaft ?

Cheers

I doubt if any pilot in the world could tell the difference that 50 grams makes in an 11 lb heli.

If you work your way around the heli, you can pull little chunks of weight like this from here and there. In the end, you may get as much as 6 ounces total. This will not make a hugh difference, but there will be some. If nothing else, flight time will be increased a little.

The hollow mast thing has been done by me and many others for a long time, it works and is safe for any flying I have ever seen. Titanium works also, but is substantially harder to get a hold of.

Bill is right though, a couple ounces on a 10 to 11 pound heli will not make that much difference. Adding, I feel that for the disk size of the Ion-X, 9.5 to 10.5 pounds really is ideal. If you get it much lighter, it won't penetrate well and carry through big maneuvers. Wind will also mess with it more as you lighten it up.

hhhmmmm. I read somewhere a long time ago that for every gram you take off you gain a second of flight time. Not sure if it holds true to this big of a heli but it held true on my Eco.

Fly it like its a rental...
