Hawk Pro Kit

Just received an email with the UPS tracking number for the Hawk Pro I ordered.

Since I live in California, it should be here in two days.

I'm going to run an OS 37 with the Hatori pipe.

I hope I can get this together before the FF in Fresno

LOL

Anyway, i asked to order one with a toki (decided on a o.s .37 just now) and asked if they were leaving yet, and he asid they were doing a final chackover and putting all the manuals in the boxes, and said it would probably be tomorrow (tuesday)

David:

You'll be fine with either engine in it, the Toki or OS.

Hows about spending a few $$ on an anti-rotation guide.
A few more on a remote glow setup is nice too....

Ya, i was planning on buying the anti-rotaion bracket, the button head, and the carbon fiber tail servo mount (i know i dont need it but it looks cool).

Actually i STILL cant decide on an engine, im just nervous about buying a non-O.S two stroke, as i have been flying them for over 8 years now and love their reliability and performance.

Then again the toki is inexpensive....

I understand

The Toki has been in the country for a few months, originally Hirobo (Altech Marketing) sold them along with shuttles and scoobies. If you look around (and I did here on RR) there was some noise from the guys that bought them about power being good (and some issues with fitting, but that is NOT a problem with the Hawk) but no real complaints of issues and relability. I WILL tell you that cooling head gets the job done very well.....makes it "different" to tune it with justa temp gauge.

That said, the OS has a good family history in the 30 class engines, only issue being rear bearings from time to time. That is not limited to the 30's in the OS: 50 to 90's have this issue still.

You need to clip a little of the canopy to fit that muffler, I don't think that is necessary with the Hatori SB-6 (which is THE choice for the 37, BTW).

Then there is the cost involved. You have already touched on that.

Let the guys know in the morning.....

OS 37 with SB-6

Has anyone flown a hawk with the OS 37 and SB-6.

Just like to know what kind of power I'm going to have and set up the blade pitch accordingly. Rumors have it 10/-10 is reasonable

Chuck

Hawk Pro

The Big Brown Truck is scheduled to delivery the Hawk Pro tomorrow.

Any building tips before I begin?

Three upgrades I purchased:

Anti rotation
Constant drive tail
Red dampners.

Are there any tricks to get the pitch above 10/-10?

Thanks

PS Magnum delivered my fuel today (8 cases), that should hold me till June, then I'll need more fuel

You can't get more than 10 with the antirotation bracket. Do a search on "NewHeli" for my suggestions on the countergear assembly.

I received my Hawk Pro with Toki engine and muffler late yesterday. I also purchased the antirotation bracket and head button. I am also going to get the hard dampers. Century has done a very nice job. This package can't be beat for the price. Many upgrades have been included that were not in the Hawk Sport. I started assembly which is going quite fast. I should have the heli together today with any luck at all. The Toki engine and muffler combination also look very nice. I hope to have this heli flying at the Fresno FF this comming weekend. Thanks to all of the folks at HeliWorld and Century for their efforts.

Hawk Pro VS Raptor 30

Hello everyone

I have a few questions about the Hawk Pro. I am a beginner and have decided to buy the Hawk pro next week instead of the raptor 30. Is this a wise choice? Can I learn to set up and fly this heli with just help from these forums? I am currently learning to fly an Alpha 40 trainer plane at the airfield but wanted something to fly at home when I am not able to go to the field on weekends. I am planning on buying the package deal on the centuryheli website with the toki 40 and jr radio ( Hawk Pro Helicopter Combo w/Toki .40 Engine, JR Radio & More $599.00) what other equipment do I need besides the electric starter? I already have the glow starter for my plane. Do I really need the package with the starter kit ?(Hawk Pro Helicopter Combo w/Toki .40 Engine, JR Radio, Start Pack & More $674.00) Thanks for your input!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Newheli, Scooterpilot,

My trick for getting a bit more collective range is to swap out the long ball on the BH mixer for another short ball.

This trick will change the BH mix to be a bit more aggressive and allow the collective another degree to two with the same swash movement.

This trick should still work with the antirotation bracket because the swash still has the same range of movement.

Flyer2k5.

If you do a search you should be able to find a number of threads on what you need to get started. Following are a couple of comments:

1) Make sure that the combo you get has a muffler.
2) You will need a starter wand, this will fit into a standard rubber starter cup that you use for your planes.
3) Pitch gauge and ball link pliers are requried.
4) I find a remote glow ignitor helps - don't have to take the canopy off to start.
5) I've fitted a header tank on my Hawk Sport.
6) Your existing glow ignitor will work although I always have 2 or 3 around so that I have spare when one runs out of juice.
7) Blade holder.
8) Training Gear (not sure if the Pro comes with this or not)

As far as whether this is a "wise choice" or not, it likely depends upon who you talk to and what you want. If you want the least expensive kit going then you've chosen that. I don't have the Raptor but it sounds like a fine machine as well although I have "hear" that it can develop some slop in the head sooner than the Hawk does.

All in all I'm happy with my Hawk Sport and don't regret getting it at all. If I auger it in enought that frames break or other major damage, I'll replace it with a Pro.

Got Money? Send it to me, I'm a Heli Addict.
