I was now thinking of leaning towards the Raven 30 for the CCPM setup and one less servo.

CCPM will NOT save you a servo:

Normal, mechanical setup= 5 servos--pitch, aileron, elevator, throttle, rudder.

CCPM=5 servos--3 for swash, throttle, rudder.

I also can now recommend the Hawk Pro.

I am a TOTAL heli NOOB. There is one heli pilot here, 30 miles away, on another island. I was on my own as far as set up and test flying. Except for the forum help.

This is my first heli. One reason I picked this one is the RR Century group. They were very helpful answering questions before my purchase and sorting out issues with set up. They also helped me solve an assembly mistake (my mistake).

If you helped me, thanks, you know who you are. I do appreciate all the help.

SteveH is also a great Century rep, and he obviously cruises these forums to seek out people in need of Century help. I think they should give him a big raise. Lets have a cheer for SteveH. All together now!!!! For he's a jolly good fellow............................

Well, the kit went together well (except above mistake) and is a beautiful machine. Her and my first heli flights were this afternoon. I flew out 2 tanks. Stable and well manered. Responsive but not touchy. Just the things this heli noob needed. No trim adjustments needed. lots of power from engine. Sweet. what can I say.

I think it will be a long time before I can out fly this machine. By then I will have my sights set on a bigger Century bird.

Doug,

Congrats on your first heli flight! I assume you have practiced a lot on a simulator?

What exactly does the anti rotation bracket do?

well..

it keeps the swash from rotating along with the main shaft. Linkages stay attached, swash timing stays constant.

Nimitz68,

The Hawk's elevator "A" arm acts as an antirotation link as does the two elevator "A" arms on the Raptor, but since there is only one on the Hawk, the antirotation bracket is much more robust. IMHO the Hawk is a fine trainer without it, but feel it is needed when you get into aerobatic or 3D flying.

I agree with Steve - the Hawk is a great trainer without the antirotation bracket. It will do 3D fairly well without it also. It is just easier to 3D with precision with it.

Well said!

My Hawk Pro is back up again, but weather has not co-operated much. Too windy.

Cannot wait to get her in the air again.

I thought the waether was always flyer friendly in the Bahamas Jack

Man you should be here in Vancouver, west coast Canada. Winter is our rainy season. But this year that has been RAINY in capitols!! We have only had two days with less then 2cm of rain in the last 45 or 46 days!!! I think I am starting to suffer withdrawl symptoms. I need the adrenaline hit provided by these R/C helis

Hey Oldfart (Phil),

Come on out Calgary way, it was +9 today with a little wind. I had my hawk pro out for the first time this year and it was a great day.
2 tanks and no issues had a great time then went for beers with some friends.

It's going to be a great year and I hope to see you at many fun-flys.

Cheers.

John.

Hey John,

Good to hear from you and to see that you Albertans continue to get our winter weather so you can burn the fuel

Looking forward to seeing you at some of te events this coming summer. I already have the dates for the Kelowna event (Aug 5/6).

Looks like it will be a big one this year as since it was posted on the Edmonton site it has got some very positive response from them. It finally looks to be the one where flyers from all three major cities will gather.

All the best
Phil

And to think...

that I moved from Sunny Southern California to this, cold, bitter, windy weather we have here in the Virginian mountains. What was I thinking?! Oh yeah! A woman.

I am a new Hawk Pro owner. I got it with the TOKI .40 engine. Although I had some problems at first with the TOKI .40, I am starting to like it. The engine seems to like to run a bit on the rich side. I'm new to glow engines and hesitant to tweak on them, but after having a flame out on my second tank.[It landed without incident] I took up tweaking. I started to run the engine a bit richer. I made a small adjustment on the rich side to the low end today. What a difference. I have more power all around, and it seems like there is less smoke, noticeably.

It's definitely a rush to fly. The size of the heli really intimidates me. It seems bigger than a 30. The pro at the LHS thought it was a 50 when he first saw it.

I just finished my hawk pro with an O.S. .37 and it literally hovered right off the board (with the exception of a loose torque tube connector, that was repaired with JB weld). This is the first heli I ever built from a kit, I never even set up pitch or anything before, my others were ARF`s that I always took to my LHS to make adjustments. I`m sure it`s not absolutely perfect but it did hover, and very stable too. Though the instructions really leave alot to be desired, this is a good machine, and should not be overlooked by the novice!

My Hawk Pro Synopsis (pre-flight)

I'm happy that some kits are flying out of the box. I got one a couple of weeks ago and finished tuning the engine (OS 32 F) on the runup stand yesterday, pushing 11° pitch (totally wrong). It was too windy to trim it out today and after 2-weeks of building

This is my first nitro since the 20th century (note: my engine and electronics are from the mid-90's). Far better quality these days. Are most present heli kits pre-assembled in the most critical areas? I guess Century decided its easier to pre-assemble and have a low detail manual. Customer service driven decision? Good thing for this forum and online Hawk/Falcon manuals.

Some build notes/questions:

1. On the first runup to verify tracking, I had severe head vibration even after balancing the blades to within 0.1 grams and exact CG. I noticed that the main gear wobbled up/down and I thought bent main shaft. Turns out that loosening the autorotation bearing screw a little allowed the bearing/shaft interface to float enough to straighten the main shaft rotation. Does this sound normal?

2. All of the pre-assy control links were the wrong length and too tight. Thank you ball-link adjuster.

3. Took a while to figure out the t/r servo/linkage. I may not have it per specs but it works.

4. My old school mechanical rate gyro wouldnt fit up front and had to construct a tail mount plate, patent pending

5. I ported the stock muffler to match the engine exhaust port better. Unfortunately I did this before ever running it. Has anyone else did this and found it better?

Hawk Pro upgrades

Does anyone know where I can get the Hawk Pro upgrades (bling bling). I tried century website and they don't have the silver swahplate #H13146D, constant tail drive CN2263A, and Clutch Bell CN2225. I tried Ricks and they don't carry the upgrades either. Does Cnetury have a problem with parts support? Thanks.

When you ordered the H13146D swashplate I am surprised they did not inform you that it has been replaced by the H16146 metal unit - the same one used on the big Predator.

You might try someof the Canadian dealers for the CN2263A CTD unit. I know some of them may have one and if not the Canadian distributor has some for them

CN2225 - they may be out of CN2225 - but they may have it under the part #'s used on the Raven and Falcon - H13010B (26T pinion) and the H13010A (machined bell).
