you really should set it up properly mastic, it shouldn't take more than 5 or 10 minutes, I dont have a CC35 so I can't tell you all the details, but the instructions shouldn't be too tricky, and it is important that you set it up for your heli, maybe someone with a CC35 will chime in with the settings they are running.

These are just guidelines, but it's a good start for CC ESC's for micro heli use:

Cutoff voltage - Set to 3V per cell. e.g. 3S = 9V 4S = 12V
Cutoff Type - Soft Cutoff
Brake Type - Disabled
Throttle Type - Fixed or governor. Do not use Auto calibrating
Soft Start - Soft is good, unless you want a slower start up

Advanced Tab (PHX-Link only) - For now I would leave this alone, but I set my Curent Limiting to Insensitve.

If you dont have the PHX-Link USB adaptor, I would highly recommend it. It is worth the $25.

And finally, here is a good overview of the features and settings of the Castle Creations ESC's

Straight from the CC35 manual, CC35 default settings are:

Cutoff Volts = 5.0
Current Limit = Standard (Moderate overcurrent threshold, will shut down after a slight delay)
Brake Type = Soft Delayed Brake
Throttle Type = Auto Calibrating
Timing Advance - Standard ( 5 - 20 degrees)
Cutoff = Hard (immediate)
Soft Start = Soft (slow spool up)
PWM Switching Rate = 11 KHz

Don't use the stock setup, the brake, overcurrent setting, and cutoff type for the defaults are enough to get you in trouble in a hurry. The 5 volt cutoff is enough to toast your LiPos if you're not careful.

I've got mine set for:

Cutoff volts = 7.6
Current Limit = insensitive
Brake Type = Disabled
Throttle Type = High Governor mode
Timing advance - High
Cutoff = Soft
Soft Start = Soft
PWM Switching = 11 KHz.

That's good for starters, you can tweak from there.

Oh, this is for an Align 400S/2800 KV motor and a 13 tooth pinion.

Oh yeah I forgot to say that. As dkshema pointed out what the defaults are. mastic, do not fly with the defaults. You can ruin your batterys and at worst, your T-REX will fall out of the sky like a brick due to the hard cutoff.

Cheers,

Phoenix setup instructions for helis---- general from support at Castle

1. if the computer does not recognize your ESC you have to go into the device manager and manually point to the folder where the driver resides, cause windows cannot find it.
Point to this folder (if you used the default setting when installation) --> C:\Program Files\Phx-Link\Driver and update the USB driver.

Now it should SEE your ESC

Settings

Each of the three configuration pages has an Update button that sends the data to the ESC. You must update the Software page (last or the page to farthest page to the right) so that you ESC knows what ESC it is. If you do this page last or second it will blow away the setting you already made, so this one first.

1. Set Software tab to your device type and click update

2. Set basic page as follows
Cutoff voltage: set to Auto Lipo detect or 9v. (the auto Lipo wont show without being connected, setting wont stay unless a lipo is connected)

Cutoff type: set to soft

Brake type: set to disable

Governor: Either set to fixed and set up normal pitch and throttle curves,
or... set to gov low, set an arbitrary throttle point (85%) and measure your rpms. When you find where you want to be (RPM's) set that throttle point across all (5) of your throttle points.
if you cannot achieve a high enough RPM then set to gov high and follow the same process as for the gov low.

Soft start: Set to soft

3. Set advanced page as follows
Current limiting set to disable or (insensitive)

All the other settings need not be changed or messed with.

Remember to update each page in the tabs with the software page set first.
