Today was my first flight on my t-rex with a gryo. My gyro came in today. Someone here on ruyryder had let me borrow a rate gyro until my new HH gyro comes in. Thanks Kelvin. At first I couldn't get the tail to be in control. Took me about half the battery pack to find out that the gyro was mounted backwards. DUMB ME. After i got it to work right, this thing flew very nicely. I had my revo almost on the dot. Lift off was pretty quick. Did i mention i flew in 15-20 mph winds. At some time it was even gusting more than that. The motor was barely hot to my suprise. People have reported that the align 400s motor gets kinda hot. Mybe i had my motor running at 90% power the whole time and i was doin alot of FF with the conopy off. I was showing off to the kids doing some loops and rolls in a small area.
It flips pretty nice. I had it hover in one spot hands free for more than 5 secs. That was when the wind stoped for a bref second. Too bad i was only getting about 4 min flights since im useing a small battery. Still waiting for my TP2100 to come in. I expect the heli will have much more power then before.

My setup:
T-rex 400x with purple links (no ccpm yet)
align 400s with 13 t pinion w/ heatsink ( use heatsink compound)
Etec 1200 classic( might be over doin it)
CC25
3 align 9g servo, 1 hs56 for tail
Custom mod for atennea rod( clean looking)
rate gyro
JR 662 tx w/ 6ch gws rx

Here's a tip to keep the motor a little cooler:
You guys know how the main gear has the fan. Well it blows down so i had took some solf plastic and put it in between the frame at an angle. So now the air coming down is blowing to the motor to keep it cool.
With the heat sink keeps the motor temp down. I could hold my hand on it after flight.
I don't really know if this really works since i don't have a temp gun to check.
I can even mount the esc closer to the fan to keep the heat down too. Can some try and check with a temp gun to really see if this makes a difference.

oh BTW i forgot to mention i wasn't using the stock z bend linkage. So im not getting any slop except from the the align servos. They have a little slop but its not that bad.

My Fist impressions

Hi Folks,

Got my T-rex up and running last week end, so I thought I'd give you my impressions. First here's my set up:

GY240 gyro
Align motor (13T pinion)
BlueBird servos except HS50 for tail
ThunderPower 2000 batteries
Castle 25 ESC
Berg 5 radio

After burning out both a Chili Pepper 4200KV (6 min. hover) with an 8T pinion and a HiMax 4200KV I ended up with the Align. So far I am very happy with Align. It runs cool at only ~130deg F or so. The batteries run at about 110deg. The heli has good, not great power. I'm running the ESC as the conservative timing (as I was worried about burning out another motor)....so I'm sure there is more power to be had.

The thing flys very well. I started out on sticks to get use to the little guy. Glad I did as it was all over until I got it trimmed out and turned up the exponentials. Now it hovers hands free . I'm getting 15min of flight time!! It handles nicely in a light breeze. I love how rugged it is. Minor mishaps don't phase it.

I'm very impressed with the over all quality, from the nice canopie to the included tools, to the extra parts, to the well built construction. This is a very nice heli. Its still touchier to fly than my Raptor 30, but I'm much less nervious flying it than my Raptor (less cost, not as dangerious).

Bottom line, I give it a big thumbs up.

Don
