I am using the Align ESC with the TP 2100. I have the battery protection set to medium or 65%. Is this the advisable setting to use with these packs?

65% should be fine minnzoo3, thats what I am running with a TP2100 as well, best of luck to you,

Do you continue to let it run down after the ESC starts to cut on and off or just recharge from the first cut out. Also, is it OK to recharge when the pack is still warm or should you let it rest and cool down.

it is better to let it rest for a little while, but as long as it isn't too hot, I use 120 degree F as a rule, if it's less than that you should be ok to charge right away, if more I would wait till it cools, and if I'm not in a rush I almost always let it rest at least 15 mins, probably not neccessary, but I'm sure it helps the tiniest bit, maybe I'll get 302 cycles for the life of the battery instead of 300 :-)

Thanks everyone for the help on this stuff. I was using the Lipo that came with my brushless package from Fung but ended up in a pretty dramatic crash again the roof of my garage after the swash came apart. I even read the post a month ago telling me to CA it together and I didn't think it could happen to me. Oh well, live and learn. anyway, after a new frame, main shaft, blades, a couple control arms etc, she was ready to fly again. I had trouble charging the battery and finally realized it was not holding the charge. So, off I went to RCToys to get a TP2100. By the way I got it for $68 and free shipping. The only thing was it took almost 2 weeks to get here. The longest 2 weeks of my life by the way.

Anyway, now I have a brand new TP2100 which I am using a TP-425 charger on. I just flew the pack that I charged last night. I got about 15 minutes in straight indoor hover before the ESC cut out. I plugged the battery into the voltmeter immediately after the flight and was showing about 10.4 volts. This seems a little higher than what I would consider a fully discharged pack which I would think would be about 9 volts. Does all of this sound about right?

Thanks again,

David

remember while you are flying there is a significant load, the voltage can get down to 8 or even 7 volts before all of the amps are pulled from the battery. 15 mins sound about right, you can push further and get more time, but your packs will likely have a shortened life in getting pulled below 9 volts. Sorry to hear about your crash, glad you got it back together, good luck flying!

Thanks Mark. Fortunately I think she flies better than ever. I think I am finally getting the knack of trimming the cyclic and tail etc. It gets easier and easier to take her apart and put her back together each time. This was actually my 2nd crash. Each crash seems to cost about $40 and I end up with some spares.

I had an Aerohawk as my first heli and really didn't like it. Very quirkey and cheap. I was considering giving up on heli's after the Aerohawk cause I didn't think I could find a bird that I could afford. Well, I found it in the Trex. I love it! I have been having so much fun with it and I can still fly in my basement.

thanks again,

David

Generally your heli will stop being able to fly long before your pack discharges to a voltage that can damage it. I routinely hover mine until it no longer has enough power to hover. When I check the packs voltage after it is always above 10volts (3s pack). This has been the general rule for all of my electric helis. Hornet 2, Shogun 400, TREX450, eHawk, Hummingbird, Corona etc... I think LVC on a heli is a bad idea.
