Hi, I am in the process of acquiring an ION, stock hacker, control, etc. What batteries do you recommend? what sort of flight times should I expect? What charger? right now I have a kokam 502 which is capable up charging up to 18.5v, but only at a max rate of 2.5A, so not sure if that is adequate or not. Any other suggestions on general setup would be appreciated.

I also have the stock Hacker, and have been running the 8000 mah 5S4P batteries -- flight time with mild 3D is 12 minutes with the recommended reserve from the MinAir instructions.

You'll need another charger. I have (2) AstroFlight 109 chargers ($120 each) and a 25 amp Radio Shack switching power supply ($99). That setup will charge both batteries at once, at 7.6 amps, for a 1 hour charge time.

Hope that helps,

- Bill Ludwig

P.S. It's a fantastic machine!!

Ok thanks for the info, that should get me going. I know nothing about the electrics, are you setting up regular throttle and pitch curves, or is it completely different from the glow helis I am used to? Any need for a governor?

Also, I will be using my 9303 radio for that, anyone else use that radio in the ION? if so, I may need to ask some setup questions.

I'm set up with Normal mode being a straight zero line - the motor can't start regardless of stick position. When ready to go, just flip to Idle-up 1, which is set to a 100% straight line, let it soft spool-up, then go fly. When you land, just flip back to normal mode which kills the motor. Of course, throttle hold will kill the motor also.

Thanks for the info, what do you have your pitch curves set to?

All my pitch curves on all machines are set at 0 to 100% - straight line.

Ok, I guess a better question is, with the stock setup, what are your pitch limits, +/- 10 degrees, etc.
