Myself, GMRO, and 2001 Drag Champ Ken Jennings were all in for the challange.
Ken faired by far the best. He only nicked a main blade, and was with out a dout, the deepest in the tall stuff (with being able to fly it back out that is!)
GMRO was the first to get tangled up in the short stuff (video above) Great thing was he only had to pop his tail linkage back on, and go at it again. The "Weed trimming" was a really nice touch, after witch, he flipped the hold switch and sunk it right into the tall stuff for a planned
GMRO was right, I didn't fair so well from the first tanglement in the short stuff. Was nose in, and had it down in there for about 10 seconds when the fly bar was snagged. Looked bad, but only bent the spindle a little, pretzeled the flybar, and broke a ball link. After having to replace the ball link, and re-fueling, I got a bit too deep in the tall stuff and it got sucked down pretty quick, but had no further damage. Final attempt was a little diffrent, tried to just drive it in from the edge "The weed eater" (note: that vinyl rope stuff works better that rotor blades ) While it looked really cool, the engine got loaded really quick and it spun around and hit the edge of the field. 3 full power inverted landings, Total damage: feathering spindle, fly bar, 1 ball link, pair of stock woodies. Total cost without blades, 18 bucks. Amount of fun, Priceless!
30 minutes later, the farmer was out harvesting his crop
I have some GREAT pics still on my camera. I'll get 'em up tonight!
