As david said any heli can be set up to fly very stable, with heavy paddles and blades ect. Also alot of it has to do with the pilot and his ability. If you are looking for the ultimate in stable I would have to say the eagle wc or a TT Imperio or along that line. I find my vigor to be very stable yet crisp for 3D but I spent alot of time trying different blades, paddles, and flybar lenghts to get it that way. Just my 2 cents!

Stable Helicopters

The most stable helicopters would be any of the top F3C helicopters that have been flown this year at the worlds

Hirobo Eagle WC DTDS, or the Eagle Freya EX
JR Superio
Kyosho Caliber

These helicopters all have carbon stacked frames and metal swash plate, head, and mixing controls to reduce slop and provide stability.

Additionally having a flybar that is above the main blades and flying heavier paddles and blades will also give you more stability.

Stable helis

I've flown all of the named helis except the Ergo 60 and several that aren't named as well. My Vigor with Modelsport FAI blades is the most stable of the bunch by a large margin, even with the gray "hot dog" paddles that come in the kit. With the red "trainer" paddles it's the closest thing to an autopilot I've seen yet. You've asked which of the other helis might be more stable, and the obvious missing choice would be X-cell. I've flown a number of X-cells, but not a Pro or SE with the metal head. The design is so similar to the standard X-cell head, it's hard for me to see that either would be enough better to change my mind. Steve.

Ok if budget is what you want the R60 is very smooth and stable in stock forum. Two of my close friends fly them and put them through hell for over 150 flights and they sre still nice and tight and if you leave the stock paddles on them they are very stable. As steve said the vigor is very stable and with the red paddles will fly buy its self (ok maybe not but close) but are really not good for a budget heli(repair cost in crash).

most stable

Any adequately experienced heli flier can set up almost any heli to be very stable. The differences usually are in how well they will stay that way after set up. This is directly related to how quickly their control system develops slop.

Also any well set up and no-slop 60 size will be more stable (specially in wind) then a 46/50 size, which in turn will be more stable then a 30 size. So it is unfair to put them all in the same polling class.

Considering this, in the 60 class,I would vote the Vigor CS and an X-Cell SE or Pro set up properly.

IN the 46/50 size, the Century Falcon SE

and In the 30 size - The Hawk SE.

helis

My comments were based on what I would commonly expect to see at the flying field. I'm sorry I forgot to mention the Raptor 60. I've got one, I love how it flies, and really think it's the best buy on the market right now. I fly it more than all the rest of my helis put together, but since the question is stability, it's not as stable as the Vigor.
A number of high end helis have been mentioned, and I would agree that they almost surely are very stable, but who's actually flown one to know?. Of the names mentioned, the only ones I've seen in real life were the Imperio and Eagle. The Eagle was for sale because the owner was afraid to fly it, and the Imperio was flown in a demo by a company pilot that TT had brought in from Japan.
I presumed, just on the basis of the question, that the questioner was looking for something that would be stable to learn on. Maybe he is looking for a contest machine. If that's the case, it would be unlikely he would be looking at a Shuttle, Hawk, or Raptor. Steve.

Stable?

I have flown HeliBabys for about 1 year in the 70's gave it up because they were the most Unstable thing I had ever flown. Over the years I have attempted GMP Cricket, Comp. Pro and others. I feel the Most stable heli's would be the Larger Heavier Type. Of these Larger heavy type I prefer the Vario Benzin Trainer as it is large 725mm to 780mm blades and weighs in at 13 to 16 lbs. A great Platform for Scale helicopter as the Gas engine (Zenoa 23cc) can handle upwards of 20 lbs. and more. Very Powerful and Very Stable. The Down size to this Type of Helicopter is the Cost of a Crash! Blades $145, Let alone the Boom and Tail Rotors. This Could cost the price of a Rapter 30 just to repair but, I fly by the Old Moto!! Don't Crash! Good Luck

I must disagree with Dr. Tim as I too flew Heli Baby's in the 70's and They were so stable that they were nearly un-flyable but If you "phoned ahead" as to your intentions they would obey

What about Gassers??

I think that Gassers should be considered. They are somewhat massive and run the lower headspeed out of the box. (of course any heli will run lower rpm's, just in how you set it up) I think that if you took an xl gasser and set it up the same as an xl se, then the gasser would stay in one place longer. Just my opinion, i've never done it back to back, but have hovered and built both.

it's not the single spindle'd or dual spindled fixed heads that are intelligent rotors , it will be a flex'd flapping dampened rotor which has the smooth and but crisp response as in hirobo, kyosho or tsk flex'd heads .. examples are the tsk h300 flexbeam and hirobo ddf adjustable heads where soft and the best .. can fly at low rotor speeds without oscillation ..

the single spindled rotor heads are not are as articulated at lower rpms and are prone to momentum oscilliation as if a blade was out of balance.. working effectively with higher rpms .. lower rpm speeds are negligent .. the post should say whats the best dampened rotor system ?

the spindled heads were made for higher rpms and quicker response .. changing the o ring dampers (softer/harder) will give it more or less response .. but a stable heli is better at lower rpms ..

Hi helisrule......guess I gotta agree with Dr. Tim....... Vario Benzin Trainer.......big, stable, and smooth. She was a gift from my late parents, and I was scared to even start it...but none the less, with patience, countless cig breaks, and major prayer, she taught me to hover. With scale as my goal, it's my favorite bird.
Merry Christmas All.

Need Help

Hi I am new to the sport I have a fury 60 expert with a OS61wc engine and a Hatori tuned muffler. I would like some advice on what my needle settings should be to break in the engine. How do I set the needles when the engine is broken in. I forgot to say that I need to know how to break in the engine without hovering because I do not know how to hover. Some advice on how to set up my gyro I have a xp-8103 radio and a 450 jr gyro thanks for all your help Kevin.

Stable helicopters

My vote for the most stable flying helicopter (that I've flown) goes to the Kyosho Concept 30 series. They are very smooth and hover solidly.

I just got an Ergo 60 with 710 blades, let me tell you I can drag an auto from a mile away, it is the most stable heli as far as autos go that I have ever seen, the blades are the biggest difference in stability. Heavy blades more stable but less 3D, lighter blades are faster but don't keep stability as well. IMO
