Blades, Night Flying and Painting > Aerotech Main Blades and autos...

Hello all,

My question, for all those out there who use Aerotech woodies, is how do they auto for you?

I was using 600mm Aerotechs on my Raven 50 and have found that they seem to bleed off rotorspeed incredibly fast when I flair and land. Most of the time, to get a smooth landing, I am counting the blades before it touches the ground and I barely have time to stop my forward airspeed before I must land. They also seem to cone up a lot right before landing; so much it looks like a crow landing. Another funny thing about them is that they weigh about 125 grams, which should be plenty for 600mm's on a fifty.

I said I WAS using Aerotechs because today, while shooting autos, I ended up landing with a little forward speed and tipped it forward causing one of the blades hit the ground. The crash only cost me the blades (covering on tip was cracked/split), spindle, and maybe the main shaft.

I'm probably going to replace them with some Airborne Models FRP blades. I've been told they fly really well and auto well, and aren't much more expensive than woodies. Can anyone tell me how they compare (Aerotechs and AB Models FRP's) in terms of flight and auto performance?

Thanks,

Mike

I switched from Aerotech woodies to several different brands of composite mains such as NHPs, ABmodels, MS all carbons, and a few others. All of the composite mains performed better period, especially in autos at the bottom. Im no world class pilot but after using all the different composite mains out there except Vblades which I MUST try someday, I have come full circle back to the ABmodels syms. they just give good performance for the buck period. Im not good enough to tell if the carbons of NHP or MS performed better as they basicly felt about the same as the FRP mains do. Im sure there are better mains out there for heavy inverted 3D than ABmodels tho I dont fly that way yet.......................The FRP mains from ABmodels are definatly an improvement over any woodies tho and their semi mains work great on my scaler I couldnt believe how much better it flies with semis over syms! Best investment ive made this yr yet with my helis is these FRP mains and it didnt break the bank...............................

Fiber glass blades 600mm are all you need. Half the the price of carbon and just as good.
