Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > GV-1 setup

Hello there

I have a question.

I have a GV-1 setup as following:

Normal mode: Off (rpm set to 999)
Idle1: On at around 1600 rpm
Idle2: On at around 1800rpm

Now to the question:

I would like the GV-1 to start in normal flight mode (1500rpm) at a certain stick position. Is this possible? If it is....How do you do it?

Thanks.

Futaba's web site can and will go into more detail but,
you will need 2 extra channels one for on/off and one for speed
setting. Unless you use the throttle stick to turn the GV-1 on.
There are 3 speed setting rS1~rS3 the setting range is 1000-2100rpm.
They are simple control be the output of that channel. So 0% will be
rS1, 50% rS2 and 100% rS3. After initail set up you will see how
these percentages will change you rpm. Good luck the GV-1 is a very
good governor.

ok

I am using the GV-1 right now and it is great.

I have it setup so I have different rpm's on different Idle ups, but I want sr1 to be set to 1500rpm when I move my stick above a certain point.

Is this possible?

Can anybody explain more in detail..

Thanks.

I have mine set-up similar to how you describe

This is from memory as I am at work at the moment but:

I believe you need to go into the GV-1 set-up and enable the Stick Switch function. This will then mean that the GV-1 will be enabled at a certain position above the idle setting (mine comes on at around 25%).
You can then set an override swithc if you have a spare channel.
In order to switch with flight mode, I guess it depends what radio you have. If you can match the flight mode switch to the speed select channel then it is straight forward. If not you can set up some mixes to do the same job.

I have mine set-up with a PCM10X, and have the following conditions:

Normal - RS1
Stunt1 - RS2
Stunt2 - RS3
Hold - off

I have an overiding switch (channel 8) to which assuming all conditions are met will turn the GV-1 on
I have the GV-1 set to turn on only once the throttle is at about 25%. This also overides other conditions
I have my GV-1 speed setting on channel 9, and a mix from my gyro gain selection to my speed selection channel. My gyro gain is selected automatically with flight mode, hence so is the GV-1 speed. Having the speed plugged into channel 9 which is a VR knob, means I can then tweak the speed either side of the GV-1 setting using the TX VR knob.

For example

Normal = 1500 -50~+100
Stunt1 = 1600 -100~+100
Stunt2 = 1700 -100~+50

hope this helps

thanks

I try what you have written.

I do have a Futaba FF8 radio, so maybe I can't do all you can.

I do have the Stick Switch function enabled. Without that I don't think Throttle hold would work....or maybe I am wrong.

So, maybe I can set 1500rpm on sr1 (normal mode) and it should kick in around 25% stick.

I don't like to play around with this thing without asking for help.

It is a little bit scary when I don't have control over the throttle...

Thanks.

You realise that if you scroll through the displays on the GV-1 tp the SwCd scrren, it will show you whether or not the GV-1 is *actually* on for you current combinations of stick and switch settings ? This way you can ensure your set-up is turning the GV-1 on and off as you desire - then the only uncertainty is which RS setting you get, and you can tell that by switching to that particular screen.

Good luck...

Hinke, When you set the GV-1 idle, kill and full throttle paraemeters you tell the governor where the idle point in your throttle CURVE is. As an example: lets assume your throttle curve is set like this in normal...throttle stick and trim all the way down ( 0% point on the throttle curve) = engine kill...throttle stick down and throttle trim up (10% on the curve) = idle...full throttle stick is 100% power at the 100% point on the curve . With the StSw switch enabled you have told the GV-1 that 10% on your throttle CURVE is the idle position and the GV-1 will automatically switch on at around 20% more movement on the throttle curve above the 10% idle position i.e. around 30% on your curve (this assumes you have the manual on/off switch in the on position and the M/R is turning at least 70% of your set speed at our 30% throttle curve setting ) . If you are set at 1500RPM then the M/R must be turning at least 1050RPM or the GV-1 will not switch on! Now, as long as your stunt curves don't go below the on/off threshold (in this example 30% on the curve ) the GV-1 will remain engaged! This is why you can flip inverted and go to full low throttle stick...you have a throttle CURVE that is in the shape of a V ...100% at top and bottom stick and say, 60% in the middle...the GV-1 never "sees" anything close to it's 30% cut off point and so it remains on...in throttle hold you have the engine set to idle ( in our example 10%) and so the GV-1 will switch off and the engine will go to idle! No mixes are required to make the GV-1 work...just remember: it works off the throttle CURVE you have set in your radio, it doesn't know or care where the throttle STICK is! I hope this helps you.
