e-Align T-REX 450-500-600 > Is T-REX tail belt powdering ok?

Hi,

I notice there is some powder on the tail of my T-REX which came from the belt drive. Is this natural? Here is a photo.

Thanks.

Mine has a bunch of flights on it and I have not seen any powdering at all....I would suggest that you remove the tail case and make sure the belt doesn't have an extra twist in it. Make sure the metal idler wheel spins free.

took me a minute to find where the dust was, there is a good deal of it there and it is likely something to be concerned about, I notice a little on mine after some rough aerobatics or tough landings, but not as much as you seem to have there, I would definitely pull it apart and check that out. As tailrotordave suggested, make sure the little pully in there is spinning free, because of the way it is accumulated there in the tail case I would think the problem would be within that tailcase, although it is possible that it is rubbing against something, or itself further up in the boom and then depositing the rubber "dust" at the end of the tailcase. Best of luck in tracking it down, keep us posted,

Mark

Also deends on what you do with the heli I think. If you were just hovering it pack after pack then the rubber dust might not get blown off so easily so it can build up over time. If you fly fast with piros etc. that would knock the dust off easier.

BTW I have it too just not so thick but I clean mine after a few flights.

mine has that stuff all around the tail case. I probably have about 7 + hours of flight time. Its nothing to worry about. Its just like a tire loosing a little tread. So in a few months if its looking bald replace the belt.

It seems your beltmight be a little tight, loosen it a little and should not do it.

Having the pulley too tight would definitely cause belt wear! Worth a check

I have seen some dust and my belt is looser than the directions. My belt will come over and just touch the other belt rather than 3/4 the way across as shown in the directions. I only see a little if I take the tail apart after quite a few flights.

Yes I think you were or are running your belt to tight. I have about half the buildup you do and I have many hours of flight time.

Hi,

I had set my belt as per the instructions on the manual. I will make run a little bit loose this time and check for tail belt powdering again. Thanks.

just try and make em touch near the main pulley. Squeeze the belt together. It should almost touch when squeezed together. Thats what I do at liest.

with a belt drive the worse case scenario loose is the belt will slip or
jump cogs on high demand, which aint as bad as too tight, too tight
sucks power, wears out bearings and belts.

Hmm, I think in this case...

...the worst case scenario is that the loose belt could get sliced where it disappears into the boom near the drive pinion. That's my only worry that could potentially cause a failure due to a loose belt. It naturally wants to open out at that end, and the metal boom's end is sharp. But if it's that loose it's going to start leaping teeth before then anyway.
