| Because of the ramp up and down of the speed controller, once it's running at a reasonably high head speed (above 80%), you don't want it to run down as unlike a glow engine, it'll take many seconds to ramp up again. THis is why on an Ion, you can't recover from an Auto, once committed that is it right down to the ground.
Also, the speed controller is much more inefficient at below 100%, so heat can be a problem if you hover around at say 70% all the time.
I fly my Ion with a flat line at 100%, no V or U at all, and it's been working really well.
