Almost forgot, took the Helihobby CNC aluminum, super high quality tail bellcrank out and put in the stock tail bellcrank. The slop difference is like night and day. So much better with stock. Replaced their aluminum MRH with the stock too. Man, hope I'm not the only one those guys ripped off!

Maybe all of us suckers who bought the B.S. on their website and got their crap "upgrades" should file a lawsuit claiming false advertising!

In their defense though, I am still using their CNC swashplate and anti-rotation guide. So, maybe only 50% of their parts are crap.

I can keep writing.... there's lots more ya know, Darkhorse...

By the way, a quick update on the poor man's (me!) Hornet...

1) Up till now i've amassed so many spares that i've got a spare head! and I've not been able to use it yet! So much for the old "Hornet is fragile "thought.

2) I can confirm now that the spares that one will commonly be changing are

a) main shaft
b) conical gear
c) pitch compensator ring
d) brass insert screw
e) brass inserts

I always keep 2 packs of conical gear at any one time (4 pieces) These run out the fastest in terms on any crash. If u'r running heavy blades, the pitch compensator rings get snapped by the main blade grips pretty quick. For the brass insert screws, it's always good to have a pack of these ( M2 x 12mm).

3) I'm now running foam blades, and cheating with some of the clone parts. The clone main shaft is much cheaper, harder and longer as well! Albeit bad fitting properties, some of the clone rotorhead parts are actually beefier than stock MS parts. but the basic rotor head will not fit interchangeably.

4) Yep foam blades. Only less than 10USD!!! How about that? They've got 2 carbon spars and the root mounts are compressed carbon... Sheeted with some form of plastic... Stiffer torsionally and lengthwise than the unweighted stock carbons... Weight 14grams... Thickness 5mm. Chord is 2mm wider than the stock blades as well....

5) I'm actually removed a lot more off my hornet now... not running the boom supports, not using the DIY bearinged bell crank... the only upgrades I got are the mH gearbox and the Duzi servo mount.

6) I was told that 1.4~1.5mm steel drill bits make good AR pins for the AR block....

7) With the use of FMS alpha 8.5 with the LMH 110 Corona as my "simulated Hornet" , I've been able to get to inverted hovering on my Hornet 2 successfully with minimal crash cost....

All good info, thanks.

> keep 2 packs of conical gears
Crashing after hitting the throttle cut and using a one way should help

> running foam blades $10
Can you post a link?

> 1.4~1.5mm steel drill bits make good AR pins
They look like 1 mm, not sure.

> With the use of FMS alpha 8.5
Yes I quite like the free FMS simplicity occasionaly.

I cud. But i du not think they wud do overseas orders. These blades are the ones used for the new Hornet clone known as Dragonfly 22A (not 22D) it is a Hornet with a tailmotor drive... U can probably google on that...

Dug this thread up...

Do most guys use this stuff?

Seems like if you can control the costs of crash with the CF retaining pin idea/one way/etc, the Hornets might be finicky, but is really the best performing micro heli's available.

I'm a noob, so all I'm sharing is what I'm finding on this board and elsewhere about getting this ship airborne and keeping it that way with minimal outlays of cash and downtime.

My thought for inexpensive blades, cheaper head parts, and canopy replacement:

Look for cheaper blade options if crashing is a normal occurance. Esky CP2 blades are $6 a set for wood, there are CF blades for the Blade that are $20ish (don't know quality), seems like there are some options to busting up a great pair of $50 MS blades while getting the hang of things.

Canopies? $11 for an Eflight Blade canopy. Heck with cutting, gluing, and painting the stock h2 canopy upon a crash. Plus the Blade canopy is 0.2oz lighter, and is already yellow with sticker accents. Just xacto holes for the canopy mounting posts and cut slits for the tail skids (I use a little velcro loop here to help make sure canopy doesn't fly off), and it looks great.

I'm thinking the Esky CP2 parts might be partially interchangeable for certain parts in the head assembly and perhaps flybar and paddles, and look like fair quality for more than half off the MS stuff, although its NOT the same head, some parts MAY be close enough to interchange.

If the head parts are prone to breakage, Centurey 3D Pro swash/grips/etc might be decent upgrades to metal. Possibility?

I have a h2 I got used at a great price with upgrades and such. I've torn it down, taken the AUW from 15oz to 13oz (builder did a good job on set-up, but built it like a gasser, not a micro electric, so lots of added and uneeded weight, but again, I got a good set-up from the looks of it), and I hope to fly it before the end of the year.

Only the century swash would fit... even then u need to make some minor modificactions...

Purple's a good colour on the hornet too!. I'm still using H2 canopies because they protect the electronics in a crash.

Yes, I heard about some soybean oil, they say if you smear it all over the Hornet, it'll make it fly like a mini Raptor.

What was the name of the brand? Duzi or something like that?

Don't run away Ronnie, seems like this forum's a ghost town compared to theTrex forum. Need to have some active posters over here.

DUZI Soybean and MS Spaggheti.

I love my hornets. To me, it is in its' own category. I can't fly my trexs in my gym. 3000 RPM is scary indoors.

Ronny,

Real good points. I'm new to heli's, to me, a Trex is a BIG heli. I can understand why guys coming from gassers like it so much, because its a lot easier to work on than the smaller Hornet. Trex, everything's bolts, screws, good for big mitts to have a fighting chance. With the Hornet, I end up looking all over the carpet for those pesky little bits that ALWAYS seem to slip out of my bear paws LOL.

That is a nice looking bird. Hope it flies as well as it looks.

Me, I'm on the fence about finishing the Trex. Probably will, then fly it and see how I like it. But if I can get the Hornet to fly and maintain without too much hassle, its just the perfect size for almost-anywhere flying.

I've seen those new Trex set-ups with 3000 rpm hs. They fly like boba fett's ship from star wars, and they sound like lightsabers dueling across the sky. Wicked beasts they are, but you really need a lot of vacant land or a dedicated flying field for them.

I've got 30 acres undeveloped preserve down at the end of the block, and my neighbors have no problem with my foamy planes, because they make no noise, and none of them weigh over a pound, so they've all seen how much fun they are and how relatively safe they are. I've got a clearing with 360 degree sighting for the Hornet (and maybe the Trex) where I'd feel safe I had enough room between me and unexpected people to fly with confidence.

You have any videos of that Soy-powered Spaghetti ship? Bet it flies just like the Duzi website videos. Those sold me on the Hornet. Maybe in a year...or two...I'll be able to get close to that level of skills. Something to shoot for, that's for sure.

Finish your trex. I have the most fun with that thing.

My hornet flies really flawlessly. If you take the time to set it up properly, eliminating vibrations utilizing Eric Larsons webpage, you cant go wrong. I wish I could fly like the Duzi brothers. Those cats are sick! I will post a vid of my hornet.

Yeah, I'm thinking the Trex will get done after all.

I really, really think the cool factor goes to a well set-up Hornet, maybe that's just because I've seen so many great videos for it (Duzi, Larson, Novotny, etc) that I KNOW you can get a micro heli to fly great stuff.
