Do most guys use this stuff?
Seems like if you can control the costs of crash with the CF retaining pin idea/one way/etc, the Hornets might be finicky, but is really the best performing micro heli's available.
I'm a noob, so all I'm sharing is what I'm finding on this board and elsewhere about getting this ship airborne and keeping it that way with minimal outlays of cash and downtime.
My thought for inexpensive blades, cheaper head parts, and canopy replacement:
Look for cheaper blade options if crashing is a normal occurance. Esky CP2 blades are $6 a set for wood, there are CF blades for the Blade that are $20ish (don't know quality), seems like there are some options to busting up a great pair of $50 MS blades while getting the hang of things.
Canopies? $11 for an Eflight Blade canopy. Heck with cutting, gluing, and painting the stock h2 canopy upon a crash. Plus the Blade canopy is 0.2oz lighter, and is already yellow with sticker accents. Just xacto holes for the canopy mounting posts and cut slits for the tail skids (I use a little velcro loop here to help make sure canopy doesn't fly off), and it looks great.
I'm thinking the Esky CP2 parts might be partially interchangeable for certain parts in the head assembly and perhaps flybar and paddles, and look like fair quality for more than half off the MS stuff, although its NOT the same head, some parts MAY be close enough to interchange.
If the head parts are prone to breakage, Centurey 3D Pro swash/grips/etc might be decent upgrades to metal. Possibility?
I have a h2 I got used at a great price with upgrades and such. I've torn it down, taken the AUW from 15oz to 13oz (builder did a good job on set-up, but built it like a gasser, not a micro electric, so lots of added and uneeded weight, but again, I got a good set-up from the looks of it), and I hope to fly it before the end of the year.
