e-Miniature Aircraft Furion - Razor - Ion-X > Most Powerful Motor Set-up

Just wanted to know what is the most powerful and reliable motor set-up for the Ion-X. I use the TP 8000-5s4p batteries and the standard Hacker motor and speed control. Do the new set-ups give us that much more power over the standard. Thanks for any feedback.

The Actro 32-3 seems to be the winner right now for all out power and reliability. It is not as efficient as the Hacker but the new heli version of the motor does shed heat really well so it's lack of efficiency doesn't seem as important. The single stage gearing is nice as well due to the fact that it reduces complexity and overall noise of the helicopter. In terms of actual power throughput, you can run perhaps a couple hundred watts more and still be in a comfortable area for the power system.

Chriss,

Thanks for thr feed back. Do you have a part Number and price for the the motor mounting hardware and what gear to use for 3D

Actro 24-4

Chriss:

Any comments on the Actro 24-4. From the specs it seems comparable to the 32-4 but is significantly lighter.

I am flying two Ion's, one is bone stock with the hacker setup 55 tooth sec. gear and MAH's 700 G2's and the other on is a Ion with the Actro 32-3, MAH 700 G2's. I have been flying an ION since May
When I first put the Actro in I didn't like it as much as the Hacker setup, but the more I fly the Actro the more I like. Just about a month ago I started to really prefer flying the Actro over the Hacker setup
I hope that helps

You won't like the power from either motor if you are really running 4s4p's, need to get the ION 5s4p's.

We have a conversion kit for the Actro motors, I forget the part number. The gear ratio is 9.5:1.

The 24-4 is almost identical to the 32-3 in output. Only when you lean on it a little too much will it show the difference. The 32-3 can pull a little harder for a little longer than the 24-4. But if you can fly conservatively, the 24-4 will most likely give a little longer flight times as it will run just a squeak more efficient. Koehler makes the 24-4 in a heli version too.

Use the same gear ratio with the 24-4...9.5:1.

4S4P's can work too (two of them of course) just gear the heli from 8.18 to 9:1. I have done this and really like the setup. Do not use 3P packs, only 4P.

JonMann,

Opps, it should read 5s4p.

Chriss,

What are the part numbers for the 9.5:1 gear ratio parts? I will need both the main gear and pinion part numbers plus anything else necessary to go with the Actro 32-3.

Thanks;

D.W.

I don't own an Ion but...

Just wondering if anyone has tried that $500 Pletti in an Ion? It will throw a Joker all around the sky and not think twice. Super expensive, but possibly worth it for the uber power hungry.

Controller for Ion and Actro 32-3

Will the speed control shipped with the stock Ion-X work with an Actro 32-3 motor?
