From reading all these post on the T-rex, I'm assuming that the Mega 16/15/3 is about the best for the price. I've found the motor at different internet shops but no Heatsink. I think the mega motor is 28mm dia., where are you guys buying heatsinks at????

Thanks for the Help.

I am using a Kontronik 480 Heatsink on my 16/15/3. I got it from fx aeromodels (see link below)

I have it installed in my Corona. You'll need to make sure that you have enough clearance for the cooling fins though.

Hey Coppertop...

I have the Mega 16/15/3 as well. I also have the Kontronik heatsink back when I used to use this on my Corona. The Trex does not have enough clearence to fit the motor with the heatsink on. At least this particular heatsink. And I'm doubting there will be enough room for any other heatsink to fit.

Using this motor with the fixed pitch Corona you do b/c your not running it at a high constant RPM so it gets very hot. The Trex is smaller & lighter, and most likely you will be running the motor in High governor mode which will be better for efficiency and thus keep the motor temp down. I can't tell you for sure b/c I still havent fully tested it but I doubt you will have problems with motor temp if you don't use the heatsink. Maybe someone else could share their experience.

Not using a heasink on mine. At this point my motor is only warm to the touch...however I've been flying in 30-40 degrees...

I'm not sure if you really need a heat sink with this motor, but I plan to get anyway. The Mega is 28 mm O.D. and the Align motors are 27.5 mm. Align has a narrow profile heat sink that will probably fit the Mega. The best part about it is that it's only $6.55 US. Modefo's has it in stock, so I think I'll buy myself a little stocking stuffer.

Cheers,

Good tip!
I've got one of the align heatsinks sitting here....Didn't realize the Mega and Align can were almost the same diameter. At this point I am not seeing near enough heat to warrant a heatsink. But with an ambient temp up near 90-100 next summer I might need to try it out.

I have a Mega 16/15/3 in my Corona with a Hacker B40 heatsink. I purchased it from Aircraft World , for $11 and 2.50 shipping.
