e-Hirobo SRB Quark - Lepton - XRB Coaxial > XRB SR Disappointment!

I just received my new XRB SR today, and I have to say I'm disappointed. It does hover like a dream, hands off for 10 seconds etc. But, I mainly bought this thing to get a little indoor practice over the winter. The problem is the XRB SR does not handle like a "Normal" larger heli. When in a hover if you give it just right input, it actually goes right and forward, Forward input, it goes forward and left etc. It's like it is off by 45 degrees! So, in order to goes into forward flight you have to give right and forward inputs in equal amounts, etc. Nothing like my Raptor 60 or Shogun! I've changed the Flybar setting to the more aggressive setup and then swapped out the Weights for the Paddles with no success!

I guess I can buy a crystal and use my 9C and mix? I guess I'm wondering why they would set it up this way?

Please can anyone tell me if their XRB SR flies this way? Anything to make it better?

Thanks,
Brett Suchecki

I would think it's your pitch screws

If you look at your pitch screws, one is probably not set the same as the other. If one is out by a turn or more, you'll end up with asymmetrical lift off one blade, this will send your helicopter 45 degrees or more off your selected input, it only takes a small amout. Considering that gyroscopic precession makes control inputs effective at 90 degrees past moment, all it takes to make a 45 degree angle from forward flight is a very small amount indeed. Turn your pitch angle screws on the top blade all the way to the right. Then, very carefully back them off the same amount exactly to the left. Then test flight and set the flight trims on the MACHINE in the following order. Forward back trim, side to side, and finally yaw left right following the manual. Hope this helps.

The blades track perfectly. If I had a blade with improper pitch wouldn't it cause an out of track situation? I'm only wondering for two reasons. First thing is, I really don't want to start making adjustments that may make it fly worse and then not be able to get it back again. Second, from what I have been hearing, this is just the way these things handle.

XRB is not designed to fly like a nitro heli. It was designed to hover and move about... you get what you pay for.

Well then.......

....this thing should fly like a nitro heli. At $310 for a tiny little plastic kit, I expected more realistic rc funtions. The thing is, it flies great! It's just that the controls are off by 45 degrees! I've got a crystal on order and I will set up a mix in my 9C and I'll bet it flies and handles better. But, we will see.

Hello Such,
I also questioned the validity of moving the pitch screws on the upper blades. I thought the same as you do. If I change the pitch, won't I have an out of track situation. The problem is that the pitch screws are for very fine adjustment. You won't see the the track change, but your one blade will give more lift nonetheless, this will affect your yaw, and then cause the heli to head off to the left or right as you input a forward command. I don't know all the mechanics, but this is what I did to mine when I had the same problem. I would head off to the left as I went forward. I'm not saying this is what your problem is, it's just similar to what I went thru. I got my XRB used, in great condition. But the shipping made for a few changes to the original setup, as did the previous owner. I had to set it up right from scratch. I see the logic behind your wanting to wait, and it's not a bad thing. If you finally run out of options though, try this. Never know. If it's not working properly, then what's one last solution to try. Good luck.

I finally tried adjusting the pitch of the top blades with no success. Tried to make them perfectly symetrical and then one blade all the way one way, and then the other blade, and vice versa, with no change in the 45 degrees off direction from input. I received a GWS crystal today and I am going to attempt to adjust using dual rates in my Futaba 9C to compensate?
