I would like to make a scale model of a Bell 222. What is the best fuse and what is the best heli for it to go with. I want it to be atleast 60 size. What is the best way to paint it?
Thanks

There are a few companies that sell the 222 kits. You can go cheap with the Century kits, then there is the Gaupner kits, Vario kits all 60 size. Just figure how much you want to spend and go from there, the Century kits even come pre-painted.

Scale 222

Go with the Graupner or Vario.
Both are good scale machines.

Best Bell 222

I'd go with the Century Bell 222. They have done very nice work with there fuselages. The pre-painted ones look excellant and the price isn't bad. You can reach them at 1 800-686-8588. I haven't been very pleased with the Vario and there prices are too high. The Century fuselages fit very well and in most cases are a direct fit for most mechanics.

I have been leaning towards the Century/Funkey fuse also for those reasons. Is there a difference between Century and Funkey or is it the same fuse? Century does not make a 60 size heli that I can find, still am unsure on the heli to go with. According to the Century web site I can get a good fuse fit with the following:
X-Cell 60ST,CT,SE
Hirobo Eagle Tsurugi, Freya
Kyosho Concept 60 SRII
TSK 60
Schluter Millennium, II Futura & SE
Intrepid 60 /4C

Thanks

Century distributes Funkey Fuselages. Century does not have a 60 sized ship. Heli-World is the front page for Century. You can look at www.centuryheli.com for details and stuff, and order from www.heli-world.com

Actually, Heli-World distributes two 60 size Bell 222 kits. One is from Century (CN4028) for U$390

the other is the Funkey (CN4033) for U$260.

The Funkey 60 size fuses are a little smaller than the Century or Varios. For that reason I'd go with the Century. My dealings with Vario have been less than stellar and I also think they are expensive. However, Vario has all the neat junk you can add to the fuse.

The mech's that you pick are just up to you. They are all super mech's, and that pick is yours to do with how much you want to spend for them.
I do fell that the x-cell is your best bet for the price. The others are good but very pricie..

Hmmm.. Is there any such thing Best Bell 222?
It depends how you finish it. I've built many of them, all different manufactures. At the end the one that I really fly it is the Century Bell222 ARF. This is a 30 size heli, yet it flies very nice. The tail response is excellent compares to other Bell 222. No matter what size they are. I think the Hawk tail makes the differences. Anyway for the price of this ARF you can beat it, plus the finishing...uhhh you will never get as good as this one unless you spend tons of money and time.
If you go with Vario, make sure you get Vario mechanics, otherwise it does not pay. But if you rather use some other mechanics suce as R-60 or Xl Sport60, then get Century one.
Good luck.

I just heard a rumour that Century is coming out with a 60 size this summer. I think I will ask Oldfart about that.

Scale 222

The Century stuff may be ok, but it is far from scale.
Just because it looks like a 222 doen't make it scale.
Scale has become a term that is used alot these days.
There Apache kit. The tail boom is over 4 inches to short
compared to the real thing. Do you consider that scale?
They may make a nice sport kit but they are far from scale.
You guys better take another look if you want scale.
If you want sport go for it.
Just don't confuse the two.

I to would recomend Vario or Graupner. You can get a kit from Graupner right now of the Bell 230 for a real resonable price. It is the fuse, mechanics, main and tail blades, and retracts for $650. That is a grat deal if you ask me. I am going to order their Agusta A109 power kit in the near future. And from what I hear all of their stuff is top notch. Give them a look see. I think you will like what you see. There is a link to Veast of the main page of this site. Look at the buildups section. Nice stuff.

Build it, fly it, crash it. Repeat as often as needed.

As I posted on the S76 you can only get a glass body as far as I know.
It is a lot of work. I don't know of any kits available in the States yet.
I am sure time will fix that.

Here is my 222UT, It is a Century 4033, 50-60 size machine. It has an X-cell 60 (custom) inside, it is very tight inside. If I were to do it again I would pick a larger one.

It looks real nice. But isn't the aft cabin window rounded at the back on the full scale helicopters. I know I use to work on the duce.
I think you should take a look at the full scale, then at Graupners or Vario's.
This is what I mean by true scale and sport or stand off scale.
I am not picking on your helicopter Flyhelis I am just trying to
explain the differences to the guys that don't know any
different between manufactures.
You did a real nice job on it. Good luck with it.
