I have purchased G3 and it should arrive here any day now. I would be very interested in anyones experiences with it so far . There are a couple of earlier posts in RR but there does not appear to be any lately So how about some recent input from you people that have it running with your comments good or bad .

Rod,

This may not be what you want to hear but I would not waste my money on the G3.......

I have the G2....... I got to play with a G3 at our local hobby shop over the weekend and the general consensus among the G2 owners is that they would not waste their money to get the G3....I wholeheartedly agree...

Sorry, bud.....

On the other hand, if you're getting the G3 straight up (meaning, you're not upgrading from the G2).... then all should be well for you....

Someone must have it

Surely there must be more than ONE person that has tried G3 ,
Come on guys , let me know how you think it is performing and what bugs you had to fix so that I can have a little less hassle when mine arrives . The post from the USA is not really fast at all . 10 days and still not here . From Hong Kong 1 & 1/2 days is the norm and thats customs as well . Sure its further to OZ from the USA but NOT that many days further than Hong Kong . It is just a very slow service .
Anyway I will just have to be patient and in the meantime would like to hear from others that are using it .

Why don't you go to one of the plank forums and ask this question?Since G3 doesn't have helicopter support yet I don't think many heli pilots will be buying it and as far as I know no one has had their hands on the heli software. We'll have to wait for 3/4 months to see if it's a worthwile purchase.

I would 2nd capebob. I don't care what they came up with as long as it doesn't have heli. What am I going to do with plank simulator?
I only saw the box and the graphics didn't get to play it, but I would expect a better job from Great Planes. XTR is out for a long time and they saw how amazing its graphics were. And all they can come up with is realistic collison feature. They should have done better than this.
It may be too early to talk, and I should probably wait and see the heli version of G3, but honestly I am not expecting any miracle.
I am still holding my purschase. I'll wait and see G3 heli version then decide what to get.

If I were to buy it now, it would be between XTR and G2.

I know that I'm one of the few that has responded but I'll pop in here again....

I tried it at the local hobby shop who has it set up for their customers to try...(most of them are planksters)

The "simulation" feels to me to be about the same as the G2 which I do own and have used for quite some time.....

The "graphics" TO ME are NO better than the G2.....

To upgrade from the G2 to the G3, in my opinion, is not worth it.....

For the person that does not have the G2, then I believe that G3 will do just fine. I have never tried XTR so I can't comment about comparing the two.....

I don't have XTR but using my buddy's one. It's has been almost two weeks since I installed it. I didn't like it at first because it is a bit pain to get the setup done. But once you get it done, It is way ahead of G2 or G3 because it has everything that G2/G3 can provide plus it has got awesome graphics. Honestly, I cannot imagine any better graphic. It's like you are seeing your heli through a TV or a monitor. Yeap, It is that realistic. But it will need a high-end video card or you will go insane with it.

So with my two-week experience, I can say there are two down side with XTR;

1-takes longer to set up the heli
2-Requires good video card.

I agree with Juan. We have one running and it just doesnt bring anything to the party. It requires more PC power to do the same thing and in some cases the interface doesnt operate as easily.
Im afraid they missed on this one. It looks like it was rushed out to compete.
Same graphics, more power required. Helis not there.
Stick with your G2.

Over on RC Groups there was a G3 review. The pictures can't possibly do it justice. They pulled the review this AM. IMHO, I couldn't see any difference between G2 & G3 visually.

I would think that with AFPD & XTR being out, the game is afoot.

Same here but I dont really want better graphics.
I dont care if the helicopter looks just like mine.
I only care that it fles like mine.

The G2 has met all of my needs although I do plan on buying Reflex in the near future.

If the new version is a resource hog, IMHO, I want the graphics to at least reflect that.

None of these sims has everything that everyone wants. All I want is some flexibility. With the current crop of sims, it is what it is. No more and no less.

G3 has a chance to be better by learing from what is out there.

I have been invloved with the beta testing of the G3 heli program.

Believe me, that when this final realease is out, there will be alot of people eating crow that have been slaming the quality of the G3 sim both here and in many other posts since it was announced.

It does take a little more coumpter power to really release its full potential. I am running a 2 year old P4 2.66 with 512 ram and it is running excelent! I did however add a new ati 9800 radeon graphics card to the system that makes a big difference.

It may look close to the same in the photos... But it definately does not feel the same!

Jeff,

Don't think I don't want KE Software to come out with a KA product, I do. If it's good I'll buy it I promise. Go US baby. The photos look like they are going in a different direction to what AFPD and XTR are doing. It doesn't look like the graphics are photo realistic and maybe this is a good thing. Maybe the models will be better out of the box.

Before I spend more money on another sim, I want some of the things that I've been asking for, things like:

1. Realistic gyro settings like Tru Flite has. I want to emulate or have enough control over the gyro so that I can duplicate what I'm seeing at the field. TF will make the tail seem really close to what I've got at the field if I want. I don't want the tail to feel like I'm playing a game.
2. The ability to set up auto practice in a menu where I set the spot in the sky where the machine starts with the head already spooled up and either upright or inverted.
3. The ability to define a heli pad to my specs and put the spot where I want it to add in practice.
4. I want to be able to export the model settings to a spreadsheet, change them and then import them back to the sim instead of having to bury myself in menus and pull downs to get the model adjusted to what I like.
5. If I'm going to be using a TX that is supplied with the sim then I need control over the mixing, pitch and throttle curves and all the pertinent things that I have in an upper end computer radio. IOW, I don't want to have to use my TX if the software will do it too.
6. When I hit throttle hold I want to hear the rotor spinning like I'm at the field.
7. No artificial barriers like XTR.
8. I want the planes to rival AFPD. Nothing less will do.
9. When I'm in fullscreen mode I need popups to tell me what is going on, like pitch, rotor rpm and gyro status, dual rate status etc..
10. I want a governor mode that will be disabled when I hit TH and I want multiple gov settings either via switches or KB.
11. If I have to put the CD in the drive to use the sim, forget it. Put the dongle in the TX or in the USB connector. I can't be bothered with having to hassle with a key disk and I simply won't buy software the forces me to have to mess with a CD.

Got any of these?
