I'm new to this hobby but have done a bit of research. There's basically one design on the market for counter rotating micro helis. The principal is the Hirobo XRB and the follow ons are the MRC Dragonfly and the Megatech Housefly.

Stable indoor electric flight will be a huge seller and will attract hundreds of thousands of buyers. To be truly attractive (and safe) these units will need to be scaled down even further. I expect 25cm rotor diameter sized heli's would be highly successful but see little development on this front. Hirobo seems preoccupied with other markets, Micro-Flight looks promising but is a hobbiest effort, and the Chinese will only follow. Megatech seems to have an adequate copy but few reports are in. Yet, they are all still too large for casual indoor flight.

Is there anyone out there developing and planning to produce a truly micro scale counter rotating heli in the 25cm rotor diameter range? The market seems ripe for a heli in this size.

Would you buy one if it flew out of the box? What would you pay?

I would. Buy one that is. 2 thirds the size of the XRB would mean my living room is 1 and a half times bigger. But the Hirobo XRB SR is already very expensive as it is. I guess I would be willing to pay slightly more than the xrb for it, tho. I think it's not so much the market, but wether the industry is 'ripe' enough to economically produce such a machine just yet.

I love flying the XRB so much, I wanted to buy two, as my little nephew say- in case the first one breaks! But common sense prevailed, and I decided to wait for 'the' better, smaller? 2nd gen, in which Hirobo or some other company will, inevitably make... I'm sure. Just a matter of when.

I'm sure someone out there, in a capacity to actually produce such a toy, is actively thinking about it. I'm just trying to prime the pump.
