I posted this on another forum bout 2 weeks back. Thought to let you guys know...

I've had maybe 30 flights and about as many recharges with my XRB SR. On my last flight, it started spinning uncontrollably. Thot it was the blades. Changed them, same thing, uncontrolled yawing.

I've narrowed down the problem to one of the coreless motor, the one driving the lower rotors. It has somehow lost power, and after only a few seconds operation, gets very, very hot compared to the other motor.

Don't know wether it's bad luck of the purest form, or coreless motor lifespan is an issue.

Real bummer, cos I kinda got addicted flying this thing and none of the shops here carried the damn spares!

get a hold of Jeff Green...

He is a good guy and if your heli was not right...he will fix it.

Thanks Rich, I'm up and flying already. It was the motor, as suspected. Bought a couple of spares too. Dont wanna be caught wit any more downtime. I've shorten my flights now to abt 6mins each and I've added some vanes to aid motor cooling.

coreless xrb motors

Can someone please tell me where I can buy a replacement motor for my xrb sky robo? I see others have gotten them, but I can't seem to find any? E-hobbies sells one, but it looks like it's for the tethered version, or are they the same motors? thanks

Got my XRB SR 5 days ago and had maybe 20 flights no problem and now mine is also starting to display weak yaw control, it is now very difficult to turn to the right, which points to the front motor becoming weak. If it is the motor on the way out i will be very pi$$ed off about this, especially as the price of a new motor on Midland Helicopters website here in the UK is £40!

I fly for a maximun of 10 minutes per charge although i believe15 minutes are possible and i only have the one pack so i am not flying without letting things cool down.

Hope this is not a common weakness with this otherwise excellent model.

Regards

I've changed the back motor bout 20 flights back and even after limiting my flights to about 6mins each, the front one is showing signs of wearing out. Intermittent difficulty in yawing right. Funny thing is, it only happens on a certain rpm. Increase or decrease throttle slightly and it's ok. Could be the brushes being the weakness in these compact motors.

A couple of things I found out bout these motors-

1) They are made by Namiki Precision Jewel co. Japan and as the name suggests, very state of the art.

2) The XRB motor's impedance reading differs from the one stated in their website even though from, physical dimensionwise and appearances, they are indentical. Suggesting a non-standard motor.

3)The can motors from the old tethered XRB would not fit in the SR's housing if only by a couple of milimeters.

Cheers.

You need to look at it differently...

A buddy of mine and member(thepoint) here put it to me this way...

The motor costs about as much as a gallon or two of fuel..we buy those all the time with out complaint...if you can get as many flights out of the motor as you can a gallon or two of fuel than you win!!

I think I can get maybe 12 flights out of a gallon with my heli...

This heli is a novelty....it is fun...they sell replacement parts...cause you will need to replace them.

This heli will not run forever with out putting more money back into it...just like the rest of our fleets.

And MRC will take great care of you if you have abnormal problems with the heli...so what is not to like!!

So true! But I seriously need more justification just now! I just spent another 300bucks for a new 7C Tx! Just so I can smooth out the flying characteristics of this little fella!

Has anybody ever tried explaining to the girlfriend/wife- "you need more negative shift stuff"?
