Ive been thinking about doing some scale stuff form scratch.
ive got a few accurate 3d models of heli's and im debating scaling them to match my rc heli's scale. I am planning to then create crossections and print them out and make a balsa / plywood pattern.

my question is ive never used fiber glass. is there any tips on how to make a shell from my balsa / ply frame? is there somethign else i should use besides balsa and ply for the form? or some inbetween layer between the wood and fiber glass so i can remove it?

any pointers would be great
thanks

Release agent. You can get this in your local plastic supplier or Hobbyshop.
Boy... it's a long process....

You could go with the 'lost foam' method. Make a mockup of your fuselage with styrofoam (or other suitable foam stuff), lay a bunch of fiberglass layers over it and then use solvent or gasoline to melt out the foam leaving the fiberglass fuse.

Hi s2jesse,
I believe a fella named Emile (Copter Doctor) could help ya on the scratch building info.
He's in Mike Ellis' How to books and has built some beautiful ships.
Hope this helps my friend.
