After reading an email a freind wrote to me, I would like to share it with the helicopter community. I know they've been working on this for a couple of years. I can think of several positives and negatives on this topic. So after reading this, if you wish, please respond with your well thought out ideas on this topic. Brain storming is acceptable......

I have a guy here in Calgary that can write the code, so that all you will have to do is take off and land (the software will then take over the flight controls and fly the machine from input watpoints). As long as the transmitter can reach the machine.

New radio transmitters (70 watt)with a repeater would allow the machine to fly hunfreds of miles from the pilots location and return safetly.

Of course. depending on the range and engine size ie: large gas engine

You could carry, infred, lasers and cameras for power line work or a multitude of othe projects including mapping.

Thanks,

Bart

From a navigation perspective, the heli should use inertial navigation. GPS is not perfectly accurate, but could be used for planning waypoints in the UAV's mission.

From a software perspective, the software should have no trouble handling takeoff and landing as well. There would basically be three separate programs: takeoff, normal flight, and landing.

You present some interesting pieces of ideas but I don't understand what you're asking for.

Is there a question in there somewhere?
