Have one it's awesome. The new mechanics and electronics work great. Still trying to get the hang of flying it (very different feel from pod/boom helis) and haven't flown it much lately, but still very happy with this kit. Soon as the fuse is done will get some pics posted.

Here is a thread that bwellmaker started on his CH-47

Have the CH-46 Vertol from Hirobo. Flys real well with the electronic mixing that comes with it. Pretty straight forward on the setup. Still working on the body, but in my gallery are some pictures of it flying without the body.

I have the new Chinook and what a cool machine. I have a couple of gallons thru it and it is comming along very well. I have made some major set-up changes from the instruction manual and have a great flying machine with no weight added to allow for the forward CG. Yaw is alot different but the mixer allows for throw adjustment to help. I have installed a GV-1 and that brough the thing to life with a more constant head speed. The biggest thing I notice, I have to fly 5 seconds ahead of it, well maybe not that much.

Thanks for the info guys. Anyone know if the kit is available at a 'sensible' price?

Think if you add expo (opposite of what 3Ders use) to it, it might respond quicker. That's + for Futaba and - for JR
Dr Tim had to do this to the Vario flybarless head on a Huey couple of years ago to get it to fly normally. Might be worth some "gentle exploration"

Good to see a fellow Test programs guy in the hobby. Been a long time since Commanche #1 in West Palm.

Expo

Nolan,

Good to here from you. I have seen you around on here for time to time. There is a pic of C-1 floating around with you and I plus the rest of the crew from the old days. To say 5 seconds, well not really. I have tried different expo settings and found 15% works the best for me. I did try as much as 40% however I didnt feel I had the control I liked in a hover. The reaction time for the heli in general is slow, lack of fly bar, and yaw seems to be the most noticable to me. IIt will and has taken a little time to get use to simpely for that reason. This too I will over come in due time. I havent been able to get as much time on it as I would like due to this thing called a job.

I hear ya on the JOB deal.!!
I'm going to be traveling on the job thru the middle of next year as it stands right now.

On the Expo.....You know I mean..... to do the reverse of normal and make the center stick MORE responsive as you come off center.

Here's the story from his web site. Bare in mind he's using a JR radio. Expo directions are reversed of Futaba.

Now for the Fun Stuff – The Flybarless Head! After I was quite comfortable with the setup with the Flybar Head I downloaded the Program from my JR10x into my Data Safe on my computer.
I removed the Flybar Head and installed the Scale (Semi Flybarless) Head. Made sure that all the pitch settings were correct and that nothing had changed from my original setup.

Day One; My first flight was nothing short of horrifying!! The Huey was coming back at me, I had the Elevator stick full forward and NOTHING was happening! I managed to get it level and landed it as soon as possible. I took the ATV’s from 60% and moved the Elevator to 100% -- This helped but still not enough control so I went to 125% on both Elevator and Aileron. Well at this stage (3 Hours and counting) I decided to go home and think about it a little before changing anything else.
Day Two: Well things were a bit easier today as I was able to at least keep it in the air – although it was all over the place!! I landed and checked pitch curves and linkages. Took her home for some fine tuning.

Day3: Went into hover and checked head speed – 1250 solid!! Everything looked good but I was having a terrible time hovering this thing. I decided to adjust the Exponential – The Benzin liked 60% so I lowered it to 30% to see if that helped. Refueled and took her up to find that there was substantial improvements !! But, not quite comfortable with control. I landed and went home for the day.

Day4: lowered the Expo to 10% on Elevator and Aileron only! This helped so I knew I was going in the correct direction so I landed and took more – at Negative 10% Expo!! She flies just like the Flybar Head – I had to play a bit with the throttle and Pitch curves to maintain the 1250 head speed but now she is very comfortable to fly !
The Next few Days were fine tuning . I have over 300 flights on her now without a mishap! Maintenance is a must and I would recommend that you remove the mechanics from your Scale helicopter at least every 30 to 40 flights just to Clean properly and check screws, bolts, nuts, linkage for any damage or cracks. Better to be Safe than sorry for not replacing something that you can not see if it is in the Fuselage!! Overall time to set up the Flybarless head to fly properly was 12 hours (3 hours a Day for a week) So don’t give up because it is a handful – I found if you keep at it and play with settings (Low Hover) till it Feels right that you can Fine tune it to perfection!! Good luck on your project! Dr. Timothy Dawson DawsonAirframes@hotmail.com The Huey is now as gentle as a Trainer is!! Truly a Fine flying machine. Dr. Timothy Dawson

Nolan,

Thanks for the input. I am using a 10X and next time I get out to fly I will give it a shot.
