| Hi Folks, a question I have been asked on my ''PMs'' is:
How did I clear the cockpit area of radio gear + did I use the CCCPM conversion kit? Unfortunately I have missed the Monday picture posting deadline, So I will try and describe what I did But pictures will follow soon.
First thing to say is that I did not purchase anything for this conversion, it can all be done by cutting up existing servo trays + the purchase of 10mm plywood.
STEP 1: Unbolt the servo tray sub assembly from the main frames, this is the unit that contains all of the control servos (except the tail).
STEP 2: Make out of 10mm plywood a bulkhead, the shape of this bulkhead is the same shape as the rear of the cockpit/canopy, so before you stick the perspex in, take the Green or Yellow bit and draw around the OUTSIDE of it then cut it out.
STEP 3: To fit the bulkhead to the main frame of the 47, you must first line it up, do this by putting the cockpit/canopy onto the locating pins level the cockpit/canopy up with some books or something then stick your plywood bulkhead directly to the flat front face of the cooling fan shroud, make sure that when viewed from the front the top edge of the bulkhead lines up with the cockpit/canopy REAR opening.
STEP 4: Now the bulkhead is in position BOLT it to the front of fan shroud with 2 bolts, BUT put in 10mm spacers so the bulkhead sits forward just off of the fan shroud by 10mm.
STEP 5: Here is the tricky bit, Installation of the 3 cyclic servos. Now you will notice that with the new bulkhead attached, it IS possible to install 3 standard Futaba servos behind your bulkhead but on top of the cooling shroud. The forward/rear cyclic servo sits with its rearward most mountings 7mm from the engine start shaft guide block, BUT you will notice that it sits too high up, linkage rods to the cyclic MUST run strait and horizontal, SO you can either buy shallower servos, or cut into the cooling shroud by 10mm (what I did) until your connecting linkages run horizontal.
STEP 6: When your F/R cyclic servo lines up, use it as a guide for the other 2 cyclic servos, they will sit on the outside edge of the side frame mouldings you will need to cut into the cooling shroud to mount these aswell.
STEP 7: Now that all of your servos are lined up, you will need to make a servo tray out of 10mm plywood to neatly contain your 3 servos, to do this, you will need to cut into the side frames by 10mm so that the tray fits flush in front of the engine start shaft guide block.
STEP 8: Glue the servo tray into position. And make sure its a Bloody Strong glue too!!! I used EPOXY.
STEP 9: Screw in servos and connect linkages.
STEP 10: The COLLECTIVE servo...... Using the now discarded servo tray, Take the top tray piece used for mounting 3 servos and cut off the end CELL so you can mount 1 COLLECTIVE servo into it. (waste not want not!!)
Now this is easy, it is mounted on the PORT side below the fake fuel tank.
Use an existing front facing side frame bolt hole to attatch it to the side frame and drill 1 hole to attatch it at the rear. AND THAT IS IT!!!
