(My First Posting, hope it works) Hi Folks, I have been flying helis for about a year now, started with a picolo, then an Eco 8 and a Hornet, all brushless and lipo powered.(& all still flying). Almost everthing I know about helis has been aquired from this site, so many thanks to all! Anyway enough banter, thought you might like to see My latest creation, its a Century Bell 47G converted to electric with a few scale additions of My own. It weighs about 4 kilos is powered with a Hacker motor and two 3s4p lipos and it flies like a dream! Flight times are about 30 mins, its realy easy to fly with more power than is required for scale (I think). Here are some pics on its maiden flight, hope you like them. ps. This motor / lipo / gearing combination is perfect and sounds just like a real heli!. So if anybody is thinking of a similar project I would be happy to give you all the technical spec. All The Best!

To CK, thankyou very much for that, you're a star! Albig, you guessed right, the Li-Pos are in the stretchers, they are removable, but I get 30+ mins flying so I just charge them in situ and have a break. The Hacker motor is a C50-16XL 1050rpm/V the speed controller is a Jeti 40volt 75 amp. The set up I believe should run at 40volts, My set up is 22.2 volts, so it doesn't even break a sweat!
Everything is almost cold to the touch, the Li-Pos are just about warm after non stop flying. The Bell has changed somewhat since its maiden flight, the 'tail plane' has closed loop cable, it has exhaust pipes, working lights, more scale detail and............ a pilot! Its Harry Potter though folks, he's giving the Broomstick a rest for a while, and is flying the Bell until I can get a replacement.
He has logged 15 hours flying with no problems though, so good old Harry!!
Many thanks again all, for your help and interest, will try and post some updated shots of Bell + in flight Photos of my friends Full Size, Saunders Roe Skeeter, a very old and rare British army helicopter with open structure wood and canvas blades! GULP!

Here are some more pics as promised!

My friend Will (on the left) landed the Skeeter in his garden, the next day it was very hot and with power being a bit marginal with 2 people and a full load of fuel I had to walk to the next field where he picked Me up and we got some good old transitional lift to get in the air. Its such a privilage to fly in an old vintage machine like this, it realy is a REAL helicopter with no frills just raw flying!
I'm thinking of tackling this little chap for My next scale project, maybe basing around a Hughes 300 running gear, electric of course, but possibly coupled to a small vintage 4cc inline 4 pot glow motor for scale sound. Now there's a challenge.

All The Best!

I'm using the standard Century gearing with a 20 tooth Jocker pinion gear replacing the Century I.C. motor gear.

I must say I've seen this machine fly, it's a beauty, sounds convincing too! and of course no plumes of smoke either.

Lovely helicopter... nearly as nice as my BO 105!!

Let's have some pictures of the Bolkow on your gallery!!!

By the way, what is the head speed of your Pic. now that you're using a tail blade as a main rotor?

If there is soil going over the canopy, you're too low!

Hi Bell Bloke - www.centuryheli.com sells Hirobo products at the best price I have found and I believe they export. If you don't have luck with them try Jeff Green at Altech MRC marketing in New Jersey jeff@modelrectifier.com If you wouldn't mind sharing all the setup info for your Bell I would be very grateful. How did you clear the cockpit area of radio gear? Did you use the CCPM conversion kit? Thanks for your help and Happy Holidays.

Hi Folks, a question I have been asked on my ''PMs'' is:
How did I clear the cockpit area of radio gear + did I use the CCCPM conversion kit? Unfortunately I have missed the Monday picture posting deadline, So I will try and describe what I did But pictures will follow soon.
First thing to say is that I did not purchase anything for this conversion, it can all be done by cutting up existing servo trays + the purchase of 10mm plywood.

STEP 1: Unbolt the servo tray sub assembly from the main frames, this is the unit that contains all of the control servos (except the tail).
STEP 2: Make out of 10mm plywood a bulkhead, the shape of this bulkhead is the same shape as the rear of the cockpit/canopy, so before you stick the perspex in, take the Green or Yellow bit and draw around the OUTSIDE of it then cut it out.
STEP 3: To fit the bulkhead to the main frame of the 47, you must first line it up, do this by putting the cockpit/canopy onto the locating pins level the cockpit/canopy up with some books or something then stick your plywood bulkhead directly to the flat front face of the cooling fan shroud, make sure that when viewed from the front the top edge of the bulkhead lines up with the cockpit/canopy REAR opening.
STEP 4: Now the bulkhead is in position BOLT it to the front of fan shroud with 2 bolts, BUT put in 10mm spacers so the bulkhead sits forward just off of the fan shroud by 10mm.
STEP 5: Here is the tricky bit, Installation of the 3 cyclic servos. Now you will notice that with the new bulkhead attached, it IS possible to install 3 standard Futaba servos behind your bulkhead but on top of the cooling shroud. The forward/rear cyclic servo sits with its rearward most mountings 7mm from the engine start shaft guide block, BUT you will notice that it sits too high up, linkage rods to the cyclic MUST run strait and horizontal, SO you can either buy shallower servos, or cut into the cooling shroud by 10mm (what I did) until your connecting linkages run horizontal.
STEP 6: When your F/R cyclic servo lines up, use it as a guide for the other 2 cyclic servos, they will sit on the outside edge of the side frame mouldings you will need to cut into the cooling shroud to mount these aswell.
STEP 7: Now that all of your servos are lined up, you will need to make a servo tray out of 10mm plywood to neatly contain your 3 servos, to do this, you will need to cut into the side frames by 10mm so that the tray fits flush in front of the engine start shaft guide block.
STEP 8: Glue the servo tray into position. And make sure its a Bloody Strong glue too!!! I used EPOXY.
STEP 9: Screw in servos and connect linkages.
STEP 10: The COLLECTIVE servo...... Using the now discarded servo tray, Take the top tray piece used for mounting 3 servos and cut off the end CELL so you can mount 1 COLLECTIVE servo into it. (waste not want not!!)
Now this is easy, it is mounted on the PORT side below the fake fuel tank.
Use an existing front facing side frame bolt hole to attatch it to the side frame and drill 1 hole to attatch it at the rear. AND THAT IS IT!!!
They said a picture can say a thousand words, and they were right!!
I will post pictures when I get back from hols.

Hi Boyd-Hoverup will be posting pictures this Monday. Bell logged 24 hours now, on the servicing front I've been scanning the various sites on Century helicopters looking for a design weakness and apparently the tail wire drives can give a bit of trouble ie. Break! But I have found a fix and will be doing the mods this weekend. Also Hirobo Lama has arrived with 3 blade head, so will be starting My build and conversion to electric, will keep all interested posted, with pics this time.
