I have been flying a converted raptor 30 with an Actro 24/4 on 2 x 4s3p (14.8v) 6 amp Li-Po's, Jeti 77 amp controller, lithium monitor (http://www.dawnmist.demon.co.uk/rcm.htm
) and an ultimate BEC (http://www.koolflightsystems.com/ultimatebec.htm)

Has anyone else any experience of these high powered BEC circuits? It handles a constant 3 amps output on an averaging basis, so always provides the correct voltage to the radio gear, even though the main pack may be running down. Seems to work fine, but I wonder?

So here's the question, my raptor has three Futaba 9202's (elevator, aileron and pitch) and a GY601 gyro with digital 9251 servo...anyone know what sort of amperage that lot pulls during flight, more or less than 3amps? I would have thought less.

Good news, the Ultimate BEC is rated for 3 amps continuous, and 5 amp peaks. So you actually have more current available than you think.

I found a chart that seems to suggest a 9202 draws between 230 and 450 mA under load, so those 3 shouldn't draw more than 1.5A combined. Your gyro only takes 70mA , so that leaves 1.5A continuous (3.5A peak) to go to the 9251. I think you're OK. I couldn't find numbers online from Futaba for the current drain of any of their servos, otherwise I'd quote those.

Even if it turns out the numbers for the 9202 are on the low side (which I suspect they might be), I still think you have enough margin that it should be OK.

Personally I prefer the SBEC in my electrics, seems to be less RF generated:

I also make and sell a bec with much less noise and $20 shipped

So how exactly did the rf noise manifest itself then? Servo glitching or something?

the ubec works with a high frequency shift that can cause harmonics that go into the receiver. a buddy's quick e pro went down with a ubec in and I had one as well. we ran tests on the oscilliscope and such to find what was up. decided to redesign one.
I was going to make one for higher cel count but got sidetracked on other projects as the demand for bec's is not that high. one of these days I will get it finished.
