Are we becoming a society who gives up strength for bling?

Not all bling is equal.

What have you done to your heli just for the sake of "Bling"?

Carbon boom, carbon skids and bows. Not very strong, but lots of bling.

I'm gonna put some furry dice in my canopy just for that 80's retro look

When I was flying my first rappy 30 I got everything in red, boom, supports head etc....after a few crashes the boom turned blue, the supports back to silver and it never looked quite the same.

Remember all that bling also makes a heli weigh more, not the CF stuff but all the metal.. I have a friend who went all metal everything he could on his rappy and its much heavier than mine.. only metal I have is a swash

I have an xcell s.e. comes with every bling you can imagine and have another xcell aluminum frame with no bling. I prefer the aluminum over the bling in flying it because maybe its due to the bling cost if anything ever happens to it But I can say for sure the blinged one looks like a million dollar while my stock looks like my redheaded step child. Bling Bling

One of these bling's is not like the other. La la la la. hmmmmmm.
Metal looks nice and bend's really easilly in a crash. Sometimes the plastic is more forgiving. And X-Cells Are Bling out of the box. I,ve got a $800.00 T-rex and its not been blinged... YET!!

Metal in the right places. Plastic linkages, levers, things that can twist and bend that affect precise cyclic control should be replaced with metal parts.

Carbon is not much stronger than alum during a crash. Seen it before.

I have seen CF skids break in hard landings, so the plastic is just fine for me.

Those that want bling, it's their personal choice.

Flinging bling around the airfield during a crash looks nicer - therefore earning extra crash points

~Fly Safe

OK, so it won't fly any better but it looks damn good on my shelf. Bling-Bling!

I believe the better you fly, the more bling your heli deserves. It's like taking your car to the shop and upgrading the tunes. It didn't ask for it, it didn't need it, it just made things better. For you and the vehicle. Like the wife, give it a gift every once in a while, to put up with you and your hobbies. HE HE HE.

I'm still waiting for the first TITANIUM parts to hit the market.

Imagine having a head made out of forged TIMETAL® 10-2-3 Titanium Alloy! This stuff is usually reserved for highly stressed critical structural members in aircraft like the landing gear on the FA-18, but isn't it about time we had it in our helis?

Never mind its freaking EXPENSIVE and must undergo a stringent thermal process to make it useful: solution annealed in a vacuum furnace then water quenched then aged at 482-593C for 8 hours followed by air cooling.

And then you could CHROME it! The heli could drill in from just about any altitude/airspeed and you could just hose it off, replace all the plastic stuff and whalla! New heli again.

You heard it here first...

Ah, for the days before the word 'bling' was invented!

I'm for form following function. Most of the anodized parts are indeed stronger and more precise than the plastic parts. Score one for metal, er, bling
