I made a portable starter similar to what Mark uses;

Question is, I am a heli only flyer (no electrics) so do I charge the individual battery packs directly or can I trickle charge them all at once with the same wall charger I use to charge the 9z's TX battery?

I use a fast charger left over form my car days. You have to charge each pack by itself. takes about 20 minutes a pack (40 total)

starter charging

I do the same thing. Fast charger has a 15 minute timer on it, I charge both packs separately. I usually charge them twice. Don't think this is the best way, it's just what I've got. Open to suggestions.

Cordless?

I have my packs tied together into one big pack. I did use an 18V power supply at first to charge them....worked great, then I got a Super Nova and it works perfectly.

This is a shot while charging the pack.

So two 7.2v packs has enough current to crank over a Heli?

Sound like a good idea to me.

Hairball,

The NiCd's not only put out more voltage than a 12V gelcell (14.4+ vs. 13.8 max respectively), but they also put out much more amperage than the gel cell can.

Right now I use a Sullivan Hi-Torq starter on a 12v gelcell, and at times, it struggles just a little with the .61 in my Heli.

The only problem I can see is the battery not putting enough juice out. The dual pack idea is awesome, never seen it before. And I've got a TON of R/C packs laying around I done use much.

Sweet!

Thanks for the idea guys.
