What brushless motor and speed controller do you recommend?...
Thank you

if you go brushless, you probably would want to go 8 cell. If you are using 6cell, you will want fairly high KV brushless motor like the hacker C40 12S or if you go mega 16/15/3, you will need to run at least 10 pinion or bigger. the current will be fairly high though, and you won't have long run time. You will be happier with 8 cell or 3S li-poly pack.

there are many good brushless motor to choose from, as long as they can produce 200 to 250 watt of power. (or about 30 amp continous) you can match the pinion gear to the KV rating to get proper rotor speed.

for controller, CC35 is probably most recommended.

Yea definitely 7 or 8 cell set up will be much better. When I had my Corona, I tried 6 cells for a while and the run times stank.

I ran an AstroFlight 020 4t and Hacker 40-3p with great success, I had a Phoenix 35 but had bad glitching probs. so I switched to the Hacker and the probs disappeared, stock pinion and 7 cells. I got roughly 10 minutes of hover and some ff. The power was good also. (some people had probs with this motor so I'm not sure it would be the most confident choice unfortunately)

I also ran Hacker 12s with Kontronik Smile esc and stock pinion on 7 cells, I got a little more power than my previous set up and the flight times were similar.

A Mega 16/5/3 is also popular with 8 cells and stock pinion.

Like askman stated, there's a whole bunch of choices, you just have to match it up to the correct pinion and cell count.

Depends on what you're looking for whether it be duration, power or price etc...

As far as esc's, I believe Hacker Master's are the best for the price, I ran them in a Corona, Logo 10 and Eolo with not even so much as a single noticeable glitch or anything. Kontronik's and Schulze are supposed to be pretty much the best if you don't mind spending the extra duckets, I just got a Jazz myself I've had probs with Phoenix's and heard of too many others that have glitching and cut off probs so I'd personally stay away from those. I did however have a Phoenix 10 in my Hbird with no problems at all, in fact, I haven't really heard of any probs with the 10. I think it's mainly the 35 and 45 that I hear most of the problems with... Oh well, just my opinion with my personaly experience, everybody will differ...

Maybe if you can post what you'd like to spend on a brushless motor and controller and what you're looking for whether it be duration or more towards power, we can help point out some specific combos?

cheapest choice may be the multiplex 4turn brushless. they are about 60 bucks. 3250kv, so you can use stock pinion. very similiar to astro 020 4turn at cheaper price.

As far as ESC, I use berg receivers, and I never had trouble with any on them including Castle creation.

on my personal corona(two that i have), I have cc35 with mega 16/25/3 and 18pinion(uses traxxas emaxx pinion gear). very nice setup.

corona li po batteries

does any one know about lipo's?(of course you do lol)
to build a corona lipo, can you just wire 3 of the 3 cell lipos together?
do you need a voltage limiter/regulator?
I can get 3 cell 1000 mah lipos in the green wrap for $25, from a esky dealer.I think when they make the batteries for corona they just put 3 3-cell lipos together in parallel

thanks

If your just starting out I would suggest sticking to the nihm packs for a while,or at least till you can fly confidently. The lipo cells are more fragile than the nihm cells where if you crash (should say "when you do crash") the lipos are more prone to damage and once you've damaged a cell they are usually trashed. Where the nihm cells can withstand a good crash (know from experience) Plus the extra weight of the nihms help to stabilize the heli a little.

I use the mega 16/15/3 and have had nothing but good luck even in my indestructible Chopper-1 corona and it's seen some pretty hard crashes

Good luck, Rick

Ive got some 3s 2200 8~10C packs laying around. Could I safely use these as 3s2p 4400 lumps of glorious power, if I where to bolt on a mega 16/15/3?

Also, do I need to limit the ATV to spare the motor from miserably toasting itself?

And wich size pinion would be best?

Thanks.
