I'm glad to see this post coming alive again after all this time .......
However the issue has seemed to be fixed by Altech at least for us in the US, I'm still waiting for the official word on the 30 size and other parts of the world......

Compumise,

You are not out of luck! Just call Jeff Green at 732-225-6144 and he'll make things better...

Now that the Delrin gear and third bearing block are a standard item, I doubt we'll hear about this problem again...

Sceadu Main Gear

I ran about a half a gallon through my S46 and I started to see white dust so I installed the upgrades sorry! I have a 46 in it with the stock glass blades and a CY/MP. Morgan

Eating a little crow

I would like to apoligize for my incorrect assumption that the gear striped and caused me to crash. VETRIDER strongly believes that a mixing arm was the culprit.

Mr. Green, Altech and all other Sceadu lovers please forgive my ignorance.

I have had 3 gears strip on the skuby 50. Yes, I have the third bearing block installed. The gears suck, one only lasted a half gallon.

The gears are @#$% for the 50

The bearing block is not the fix IMO. The plastic the main gear is made out of is very thin and just plain crappy looking. Kinda reminds me of the ones on my Nexus, but of lesser quality! I could see light through mine!
Get the Delrin one. It is really nice and seems to be very strong. I have about 1 gallon through mine and all of the white gear dust that was present with the original kit gear is gone.

Well, my 30 just stripped the main gear. It had the additional bearing block installed before the first flight. Approximately 1.5 gallons of Fuel, 30% wildcat, 550 mm MS 3D pro blades, Century Torpedo muffler, OS 32. Are these under warranty or am I just out of luck?

Let Jeff Green know.....

Fred,
I would e-mail Jeff G right away. I would bet if you can show him that it was defective he will replace it. I know he also likes to hear about this stuff in case a trend forms. Their is a new gear out to replace that white one.
By the way check your clutch liners if you have a hot start. Found that the 50 will completely eat a liner if you hot start it for more than about a 1/10th of a second

Are the delrin gears included in the DTDS upgrade?
I also have the 3 bearing block upgrade

The machined delrin gears are the ones included with the DTDS upgrade. They are white, very strong and you can see circular machining traces on it.

The stock white gear is a molded plastic gear (delrin is also a kind of plastic) and it will have stress points and will not be as strong as the machined delrin which has a uniform material.

Hirobo has worked on a replacement gear for the stock white one for all 30 Sceadus as well as the non-US 50 Sceadus. If you're having issues with the stock white gear ask Jeff Green for a replacement with the new kind. The new one is black and a lot stronger then the original design.

While on the topic of clutches, are the liners available seperately or does one need a whole new clutchbell with the liner factory installed? Should a clutch be replaced if the lining is toast? (I am still having Raptor flashbacks and my left eye keeps twitching)

The clutch design in the Sceadu is several orders of magnitude better than the Raptor clutch. Notice how the tail rotor will actually stop turning when the engine is idled down and the smooth engagement when the rpm is increased. Don't worry about it the liner,it will not wear out under normal operating conditions. No clutch liner would survive a long hot start.

This is off the topic of this thread but you brought it up.

<< As far as blade flutter goes, mine doesn't experience it as long as you keep your headspeed decent (meaning under the 2K limit). >>

The statement is too vague. Are you saying you did have woof occur at high headspeed. If so, what bird? Please contribute your experience to the ongoing pool of woof reports by elaborating. Is this just something you have heard, namely that "woof occurs at high headspeeds.?

Just wondering. Fyi, I & friends have all had woof at normal headspeeds (i.e. ~1800rmp or thereabouts) so the idea that woof is necessarily characterized by high (~2000rpm) headspeeds is incorrect.

Liners

The part number is 0400004 and is generic for all Hirobo machines. Just trim to fit the bell.
