Computer Flight Simulators > G2 Impala Trainer?

I'm using G2's Impala .30 trainer, the only one with the training gear, to practice hovering.

I can hover well enough, but the controls seem awfully sensitive.

Are there any changes I can make to the Heli model so that it acts as a more tame trainer?

I noticed it had something like +/- 10 deg collective pitch on the main rotor... isn't that kind of a lot for a trainer?

FYI, I'm planning on getting a Sceadu .50 to train on, tamed out.

Any suggestions for better models?
I only have G2, none of the add-ons.

Thanks!

Are you using the G2 controller or the interface with you own radio?

You could play around with the paddle weight by making them abit heavier and that will slow down the response abit or if your using your own controller you could adjust the 'dual rates' down from 100 to 80 or so and see how that goes. When I fly in G2 I like to have rapid response.

I'm using the G2 controller, the game-port version.

I don't have a real TX yet...

Ok.. Then your best bet is to create a copy of the Impala Trainer and edit some of the preferences like paddle weight. You can also try editing the servo speeds. As you get more comfortable with the settings gradually return the settings to the default. Some helis can be more responsive then others especially if you start using faster servos, lighter paddles and different paddle profiles. I think if you get use to the heli that is more responsive (touchy) the more prepared you will be when it comes to flying the real thing. But that's just my opinion which might not mean much. hehehe

Just take your time but most important don't get discouraged and just have fun. I'm still very very new at this myself and I'm sure glad I have G2 to practise with.

Does anyone have this experience? When I use the stock impala trainer with training gear it constantly wants to turn to the left. When I use the impala .30 without the training gear the tendency to do this is less. I realise the tendency to want to turn to the left is normal in a helicopter but is it greater with training gear or do you thing this is just somewhat excacerbated in the simulation?

I have flown many of the other helis in G2 and none of them seem to posses this constant desire to turn to the left as much as the trainer does. Any thoughts?

G2 Help

It is completely normal for a heli to go left when lifting off of the ground. As far as it being to sensitive, adjust your dual rates. Try 70% for the low rates on the pitch, ailerons & tail. If you want further help, join us online during a multiplayer session and we will help you fine tune your setup.
