Stolen? Missing Helis or Equip > Theft prevention can you help me?

Hey guys I go to a military boarding school up in NY. Ive been workin my butt off all summer to get enough cash to buy a Raptor 30v2 and all the equipment. My original plan was buy the stuff and lock my radio and tools etc inside a trunk and I was gonna lock the heli up inside my wall locker. I havent seen one of these helis up close only from afar or in pictures. Now I'm afraid that it will be too big length wise to fit inside. Would it be possible to take off the tail of the heli to make it shorter without having to totaly dismantle it? Is there anyway to tag it with some sort of loud beeper kind of like something you would find on a cordless phone? My friend and I booby trapped his playstation last year useing a couple of razor blades it was set so that if you didnt pick it up in a certain way your hand will get a few deep and nasty cuts and it worked we caught a thief and he wasnt able to write for a few days because of the razors. So if anyone can tell me if it is possible to shorten a heli for storage (Ideal size less than 3 feet) that would be great. Or if anyone has any ingenious ideas on how to boobytrap the heli I'm all ears.

I would nix any type of booby traps..... The way laws are & lawyers make their "living" these days it could be 50 yrs before you pay off the damages that an injured person may get from you...
Any R/C helis will cost 2000 X's more than they do now!!......
Try to get contents insurance to cover thefts......

True that. I dunno Ive just grown to hate thieves over the years. Ive had plenty of stuff stolen from me before. Anyway I dunno what they could so me for. I mean they got hurt touching my property in my room in stored in my wall locker without and best of all they did it without my permission while I wasnt in the room. Anyway I wasnt really planing on booby trapping it. My real question was is it possible to remove the tail withouth spending an hour dismantling it or risking permanent damage to my heli? Even if takeing the tale off does take a little work its better than spending another 600$ buying a new one .

I'm not saying that thieves should get away with it!... Just be careful how you deal with it.
Yes, you can remove the tail boom, if you don't want to have to reset the linkage each time install a tail mounted servo so you can remove the tail without too much drama.
Use care if you do this often, it would suck going through all this to have a crash because you forgot to tighten something....

If you are that limited on storage space...maybe you should reconsider. You will also have to store support equipment, transmitter, fuel, starter, tools, etc. Since you are at boarding school and have no one there to help you or the space, have you considered buying a sim to fly over the school year? You will not have to worry about space and it will save you a great deal of money in the long run.

Thanks for the advice. Is the tail mounted servo sold as an option when you buy a heli? Space is not really the problem at school I have a foot locker where I can store the transmiter, starter , support equipment etc. Besides for the transmitter, nobody will have any idea what all the other stuff is used for and thus wouldnt bother to steal it. Anyway I have space for everything to be locked up anyhow. Even the heli now that I know I can take the tail off without too much of a hasle. The fuel can be stored under my sink with all my cleaning supplys shouldnt be anymore flamable then the rest of the stuff . Thanks for your concern though paramedic, and thank you for the advice BladeRunner.

Someone "in the know" could reply here.

It's my understanding that AMA insurance covers up to $1000 in theft of equipment. You would need only file a police report.

Someone else please reply as if the incurace would cover this.

AMA is pretty cheap insurance for such a situation.

Mark C.

P.S. Has anyone here ever used the AMA insurance?

Get a laptop computer lock with cable and lock through the heli frame to your wall locker. Also, hook up a webcam if possible to take a snapshot every 30 seconds or so of your room. What about building security/cameras? Most buildings have hall cams/etc.

Thieves suck. Good luck.

I might not be very good, but I'm fun to watch.

how about rigging a pepper spray into the locker so that if you dont open it right it sprays an average height person in the face

Just a suggestion but the Voyager E is a small enough heli to store without issues and it doesn't require all the support equip. It might be worth looking at,

If you go brushless you will find it flies like a 30 nitro machine. way more convienent to travel with and easy to find placed to fly.

the ama only covers theft if there is a sign of forced entry. Do you have someone who can help you get started in flying? If not, you could seriousely hurt someone.

If military school there works anything like the real military then I'm sure your instructors would not hesitate in letting you sort out the culprit/s.

If anyone stole from any of his/her platoon mates when I was in, it was you guys know who it is. You sort them out.

Just becareful how far things go. You want to teach them a lesson they wont soon forget but not end up in jail on assault charges like a friend of mine.

Laughing at yourself will lengthen your life. Laughing at me will shorten it...

you could get a zoom, they are very handy and fly like a 30 size

and there is no reason to not rig your locker to spray pepper spray in a thiefs face

just make sure there is a disclaimer in small print at the bottom of the door of the locker, just out of the way but in plain sight (legal thing)
