I went into my local hobby shop, I don't know much about helicopters but I don't think this guy did either. I told him I had just bought a helicopter with a OS .46. He looked at me like I had two heads and goes you mean a 46. I said yeah whatever. They also didn't carry 30% nitro. O well, nitro is really expensive to ship isn't it? Also, just wondering, what else I need to start flying. I have the helicopter, the sim, all the onboard equiptment (engine servos gyro all that) and I just got a glow plug ignitor. I want to see if I can use my high speed drill with a hex bit to start it. What else would I need. I have fuel too.

Do you have a flight simulator? I downloaded FMS and built a TX interface for my futaba transmitter. I sort of hovered the first time out, did some mods to my tail to clean up the slop, and now it flies like a charm. I have hovered 7 tanks of fuel through it, getting the heli up to about 50 feet, and am flying some circuits, and slow forward flight. I have not yet crashed. My simulator made that possible. Thanks to rotorhead for setting up my baron, and thanks to FMS for the free sim. Great stuff, and well worth your time.

Now I think I am going to have to buy a TX glove. I can't feel my fingers after two tanks... Blegh. Other than that this sure is fun.

The new FMS version is a HUGE improvement over the old one. People that don't have any sim should try it. It's really good.

I have to agree with Alex. The best thing to do next is to locate an experienced heli pilot to inspect your heli and trim it out. Also, an experienced pilot will be able to get you hovering and assist you as you progress. This is your best chance for success.

Now, I'm sure that there are some that have taught themselves but I am sure that they are a minority. I've been flying R/C planes for over 20 years but when I ventured into R/C helis I definitely went looking for assistance from an experienced heli pilot. And I'm glad I did! I am now affiliated with the largest and best R/C heli group in my area. It's the best move I've made in my R/C career.

If you would like to locate other R/C heli pilots in your area check out http://p-locate.rc-helipad.com/.

Good luck and have fun!
