Hi guys, I just bought a Concept 60 SR, actually a complete turn key package, couldn't resist the price Anyway, has anyone flown one or does anyone have any comments? It's already built, but, has never seen fuel,I will have to check a lot of things. Judging by a quick lookover this would be a first heli for this gentelman and it will need a few changes. It has just been hiding out in a guys basement cause he lost interest, I have a couple of Nexus 30's and a Concept 30, how do these compare to the 60? It almost looks like a piece of history Although I think it's about 5-6 yrs. old. Any info is appreciated. Thanks-----Barry.

Oh ya, it comes with woody nite blades! I haven't checked very closely but the L.E.D.'s stick up under the shrink film and there is one in the ends of the blades too, looks weird to me.

Concept60 SRII

I've been flying one since last Jan. No problems, I have an 8UHS with 9202's on everything. (no gyro) I used Helimax 660mm Woodies early on and it flew ok but the covering is marginal and I now have 660 "V" blades, it fly's about the same (the flip and roll rate is a little slower) but the head holds much more energy. I like the "pitch wire" control system because it has flew parts and no lost motion. The machine now has about 45 Gal. on it and recently one of the Hiller control arms broke off, (it has two so no problem) otherwise it is still slop free. I did a complete disassembly cleaning and re-grease about 10 Gal. ago and found no problems, so I just fuel it, fly it and wipe it off.

Concept 60SR

Thanks for your reply Doug, this is an SR, it has never been in the air. The original owner tried to start it,but had no luck and gave up, he just stuck it in his basement for five yrs. and then decided to get rid of everything. I have noticed that the SR II is still on the market and seems to be pricey I guess I got a better deal than I realized, thanks again----Barry.

I have a C60SR with most of the zeal upgrades(bought it that way). It is extremely stable and a very nice flier. Have not gotten into 3D flight yet, but it looks promising.

I got a great deal on 2!

Thanks

Concept SR 60

I flew the SR 60 for 2 1/2 seasons and liked it for the most part. It is able to fly very fast due to the canopy shape and the flapping head. One of the tricks to the flapping head is to realize that the head speed is the damping. The higher the head speed the stiffer the damping. I flew mine at three setting with the GV-1 1450, 1650 and 1850. At 1450 the heli was very stable (and slow on the cyclics) and hovered well (its no SE). At 1850 the roll/flip rate with the x-cell white paddles was good. The auto's were very nice with this ship especially with a set of 660 semi semetrical blades. Look at my gallery for a pic of my SR from 2000 NW IRCHA. I also have some parts I am trying to get rid of and I have a picture of the parts if your are interested. The pic in my gallery has only some of the parts. The one thing you will notice with the SR is they make a unique gear noise. They are very different sounding just like the X-Cell SE's.

Cocept 60SR

David, I'm not sure why, but, I have sent a couple of e-mails and they are being returned/rejected. It could be at my end, the last one I sent through the site here and it was returned. I'll try again to the add you gave me for the first couple that went through.-------BladeRunner.

It's possible that I have some set-up changes and need to sort them out, I just installed Norton System Works and may need to tune it a bit?

I have had problems with the switch over from the excite ISP to the ATT BI server. My new email address is davidj@attbi.com I got some of the messages. I think the ATT ISP is still experiencing problems.

I had a Con 60 for my first 60 size machine.Still got it actually!Just change the wire tail pitch control for a rear mounted servo and carbon rod and enjoy it.Vario produce bits for this or NHP do a complete kit.I love the flapping head, always looks cool when you spool up and the blades straighten up.Keep a check on the gear mesh as you may need to add shims at the bottom of the main mast.Never broke anything on mine apart from a tail blade.Uses OS61 SFN and NHO 660 symmetrical blades.

C60?

Thanks for the info Peter, I'll give it a go and see what turns up. --------BladeRunner.

BTW, I was thinking that I could stiffen up the tail supports if I installed longer ones and attached them lower down-is this worth doing? I'll be changeing the start cone for a one-way so it will fit between the supports easily.

Concept 60 SR

Never felt any need to change boom stays, though don't push it as hard as my other ships.I changed the cone to a hex start to allow the use of a "wand" type starter. This was handy as one time in its life it lived in a Jet Ranger Fuz.
Good Luck with it.Any problem with spares, let me know as there is a shop over here which offers quite good support for such an ageing heli.

I think with the 1 inch dia boom (The SRII is carbon) it is stiff without the stays. I keep them to prevent "spitting" out the boom.

Concept 60 SRII

I also have an SRII Graphite. It is the best flying chopper i've ever owned. The constuction is superior to just about anything on the market. $900.00 is not unresanable if you look at the quality. The SRII is as nice as a pro 2k or a dnhp maybe not as aerobatic but for an intermediate flier like myself it more than enough and very stable. Do any of you know where to buy 3D stile carbon fins for one? I saw a set on one that was for sale on ebay, I should have e-mailed him. They probable were from a different model.

I was in a vain search for the same. Got an email from Mr. Carbon, forgive me but I don't recall his name. He did make them in the past but does not any longer. I ordered some Caliber 60 tail fins after talking with Great Plains staff but when I recieved them they would not work and returned them. Ron Lund did some searching for me and could not come up with anything but I did purchase some MyStar 3-D fins which did not adapt very well because of the lack of tail rotor blade protection (to short in length on vertical fin). Because of my occupation I do have access to a water jet and laser cutter so I may have to purchase my own CF and cut my own. I would still have to pay for CAD and CAM charges. The reason why I haven't is because I still come down hard on my tail at times. It's really a bummer when you have to do everything by mail order and cannot physically put your hands on something before you buy it. If you find something let me know and I will do the same. Good luck in your search for the holy grail.

butch r, have you considered adding a small bit of piano wire? Just make a small "J" and attatch it to the fin whatever length you need.

I actually made a loop for my Nexus (like a Bell 47G has) after the first time I backed the tail into the ground and stipped the main gear..

CF Fins

While I have not found any 3D style, I have used MA XCell60 CF fins(redrilled the holes) with great success. They are as big as the originals and I have a readily availble source over in Des Moines.

I will look at their 3D Fins and post here what I find. There is someone on another board that is selling the SRII Graphite mechanics for $350 on another board. I am short of cash right now, otherwise I would buy it.

It will be 65-67 degrees here in Iowa today, so the fleet is coming out!!!

Hope all of you can have a great day today!

Blade Runner:

Becaues the stock fin is hollow (milk bottle material) it will bend to the side and the TR blade's "eat it" (how do I know that) The MA fins are a good sub (I also run the MA carbon TR blades.

That's a good point, it is hollow. Maybe make the "spike" with a curve on both ends and glue it inside the fin? It would not be able to turn then.

3d fins and metal boom clamps from Raptor 60!

Raptor 60 carbon 3d fins and metal upgrade boom clamps fit the Concept 60 series, finally!b

Also, another neato trick is to remove all the secondary rudder support linkage and bearings and install a black plastic Vario rear servo mount and use the $15 xcell carbon fiber push rod kit with just one oem rudder push rod guide bolted to just one of the xcell rudder push rod guides (included in the $15 kit) and just one of the teflon wear guards shrunk wrapped to the carbon fiber rod halfway down its length. Now you've got carbon fiber 3d fins/metal boom clamp and carbon boom supports and carbon rudder push rod and rear servo set up like the pros! PS dont forget the upgrade stainless drive shaft for the tail for those super gyro servo-gyro combos!
