I recently purchased a hawk IV and will probably start assembling it today. Is the only difference between the Hawk IV and the SE the bearing upgrade? If so, is this something worthwhile, should I order the upgrade and wait a bit longer?

Thanks for the help.

Yes

In my opinion you should have bought the SEV2, it has about $250 in upgrades, I have a V2 and I like it. Yes, I would tell you to get the extra bearings !

Hawk IV & SEV2

Going from memory:
Hawk IV - Hawk SEV2
Price - $220.00 - $330.00
Blades - ARF woodies - ARF Fiberglass
Bearings - 31 - fully ball raced
Swashplate - Metal/Composite - All Metal
Canopy/fins - Like Hawk III - New SE version
Rotor - Composite Hub - Machined Aluminum Hub
Tail Rotor - SIngle Bearing - Two radial and one thrust bearing
Spindle - 5mm - 6mm
Muffler - CNC Aluminum supplied - must purchase seperately

(I know there are a few other differences but I cannot think of them at the moment)

The $22.00 bearing kit for the Hawk IV would be the only addition I would suggest for training as this will keep the controls relatively slop free for a long time. That being said, it was box stock Hawk IV's, without the bearing upgrade that where used for the 3D demos at the recent annual Sandowne Show in London England that wowed the crowd.

With the highly zooted Hawk SE I would suggest you purchase the CN3033 ($40.00) High Output muffler which will allow the high output OS-32SXH engine even better breathing then the CN3005 supplied with the Hawk IV kit and a set of the HAWK IV woodies (CN2322 for $19.00) and save the fiberglass units for after you are well into aerobatics and FFF.

All the information and manuals for them are on the Century helicopters web site: www.centuryheli.com or see a direct excel spreadsheet comparing these features and others in the #1 spreadsheet on nitroburners web site. www.nitroburner.com. His #2 spreadsheet compares the 50 size helis.

OldFart, you got it all together dude !!

Heehee,,, Yea, if you do buy the SEV2 put those $80 main blades on the shelf and save them until you deserve them,,, I fly the $20 Aerotech main blades that Century sell on my Hawk SEV3 and I like them, the guys that I fly with are considerably better pilots than I am, and they said they are going to use them on there 30s !! Order the Aerotech blades when you order your heli..
