Ok guys, I've been lurking here for a while to learn all I could about aerial photography. I finally bit the bullet and ordered the Voyager 50E with camera mount from Airfoil last week. I think they are waiting on new stock so it will still be a while.

I've been flying helis since BG (before gyros) but know very little about cameras. After listening to yall, (I'm from Alabama) talk about the different camera choices, I'm leaning towards a Canon digital S60. I own an S30 and like the features but the S60 is a 5mp with a "wide angle" lens. My theory is that on real estate type shoots the wide angle might allow me to fly closer to the subject while still having the background show in the pics. Lots of ocean view property in my area so I thought it might help.

Am I on the right track?

Thanks

Tom

I know little of the camera you speak of but it sounds like you are on the right track to me. Having a wide angle option is very good thing. It keeps you closer to the ground

Cool! Welcome to the club!

Are you planning on a 1-person or 2-person setup? (pilot & cameraperson)

Does that camera have a video out so you can check the framing from the ground?

Thanks for the welcome there Greg and daggit!

The Canon does have the live video out. I have "consulted" with my wife about being my camera person and we are still in negotiations She knows less than me about photography (school math teacher)

I would love to be able to shoot solo but from what I hear you guys say the framing is much better with a camera person. I'm still researching the downlink equipment. I don't have the ham license but could study and get one I suppose. Semm the consensus on RR is to use a camera person. Correct?

I'll second that. The only bad thing is the kids want a larger cut of the "action".

WARNING:
You'll never look at the world the same again.

I can't look at anything without considering photographic possibilites from the air and where I can take off from

I already find myself driving down the road and thinking "now the sun will be over there in the morning so the best shot would be from there and I would need to take off from over there and those trees could be in the way and .................."

You guys know the rest

hey tom.

camera people are overrated. especially if you have to eat with them, sleep with them, and fight over the remote.

later.
