Do you have to balence carbon blades?

Thanks

Generally yes. There are few blades that
I trust to come out of the bag perfect. They don't
require much but I check every pair.

Do you happen to have links or a brand name from carbon raptor blades that won't require balencing?

Thanks

yes but to be blunt, I think putting V blades
(at $100-125/pr) on a $250 machine is a
huge waste of money. You'd be better off
investing in a good blade balancer.

Yes they will work perfect. FYI in the future just do you know. The Raptor 30 takes a 550mm blade with a 12mm root and a 4mm bolt hole. The 50 takes 600mm and all other remains the same. I agree with the previous post though. Get a good balancer (ie Koll Rotor Pro) and balance your blades and save yourself some money until you move up into the big time.

I purchased a set of CMT 550 Carbon blades and they did not need to be balanced, I did check before hand though.

Blades

I have been buying carbon and fiberglass blades for years now. Since I am way the past the "crashing" stage, I dont worry about crashing them. I do however check all my blades with my Koll Rotor Pro no matter what brand they are. The blades I find to be in perfect balance MOST of the time are:

V-Blades
CMT ("real" CMT's, not the GoQuick brand)
SAB
NHP
Zig Saw
The World Modles
MA Rotorsport

If you are new, and still in the crashing stage. I would suggest you INVEST in a Koll Rotor Pro. It is not cheap, but it is worth every cent. And, you will never "crash" it - you will keep it a life time.

If you are past the crashing stage, get what ever blades you want since you are not going to crash them.

If you are in the limbo stage (most flights are good, but every so often you munch), then I would suggest you get inexpensive fiberglass blades. They are much better then wood, and only $5 or $10 more then most wood blades.

The specific blades I am talking about are by The World Modles. For only $28 you can get a great set of fiberglass blades that work great on the Raptor. Here is a cut and paste copy of a previos post I had made a few months back.

"$28 Fiberglass Blades

I have a few sets of these blades. They look and fly great. Several of the guys at my field are using them now and everyone has been very happy with them. And they are only $28!!! I posted the info several months ago on this web site, but here is a repeat of that post.

The company that makes them is "The World Models". The USA distributor and retailer is Airborne Modles. Here is a link to their web page. They also have full page ads in RCM magazine.

http://www.airborne-models.com/

Once you get there, look down at the lower left corner and you will see "Parts and Accessories". Click on Accessories. Go to the bottom and click on page 2. Once on page 2, scroll down to the bottom and you will see the following two items:

FRP main rotor blade PR6200550 Fiberglass 550 mm semi-symmetrical. Clockwise rotation. 4 Oz. pre-balanced. Bolt hole 4 mm, root 12.5 mm.

FRP main rotor blade PR6200551 Fiberglass 550 mm symmetrical

If you then go to page 3, you will see the 660's and 680 blades.

Please note the web site says the root is 12.5mm, in reality, they are exactly 12mm and fit the Raptor perfectly. Yes, they include spacers and bushings for 3mm and 4mm bolt holes."

I have a pair of 530mm Vortex blades---they were perfectly balanced out of the box, are very durable and have an excellent finish. They are finished in white with CF windows. They look great.
