e-Miniature Aircraft Furion - Razor - Ion-X > Ion Hacker Speed Controller Q?

Just a quick question on my Ion, I’m just about to give it its first flight.
I’ve changed to controller from NORMAL into HELI mode as per the extra sheet in with the speed controller, so I power on and it beeps twice. But, then it beeps 5 times about 5 seconds afterwards. I can’t figure what that’s telling me.
It seems to be armed and fires up OK.

Thanks,

Spitz

OK, fine, but what's it mean? Is that documented somewhere?

Its something with the govonor mode. Its not really documented, but when I had an Eraptor I got a controller with the brand new(at the time) programing and it was a change that hacker had made for the heli mode.

1 beep = normal throttle mode
2 beep = govenor mode

I run normal throttle mode as unless you are just hovering, the gov on electric controls will not keep up. It has to do with the senseless operation of the control. At least I am pretty sure that is now the production controlers turned out. With a non heli controller, 1 beep = no brake, 2 beep = brake which is not cool on a heli

5 single beeps after the first hesitation is normal. That is telling you that it is in the correct timing mode for hacker motors.

OK on the hacker ESC
It will beep once or twice depending on what mode you are in

Once is for Normal and Twice is for Gov. mode

Hacker and MA both have told me not to run in Gov. mode anymore
because the motor and ESC will run cooler in you just program a throttle curve (normal linner line 0,50,100 and Idel up V curve 100, 75, 100) if you look in the back of the manual that came with the Ion you will see that is what MA tells you to do

As for the 5 beeps after that it is arming the motor so as Black96z said don't move the throttle until after the 5 beep
Then you ready to go fly

Good luck and if you have anymore questions please let me know

The MA manual tells you to run governor mode, at least that's what I assume it tells you as in normal mode you run a straight line, apart from a ramp up at the beginning, then either a straight line or a very slight V in idle1 and idle2.

If MA are changing their setup recommendation it needs to be better communicated to users.

What about everyone else, are you running heli mode or not?

They are recommending that you run this ESC in normal mode (1 beep) with an IdleUp curve that goes from 100%-85%-100%.

You'll loose about 200 RPM in HS if you run in Heli Mode (GOV), and the heli will feel a little sluggish flying.
