e-Mikado Logo 400 500 600 > Logo 20 swashplate pivot bolts weak?

Hey guys,

Just received a Logo 20 kit and commenced construction. While installing the swashplate pivot bolts, one broke off. I had previously read the instructions (really!) about not overtightening, but this took VERY little effort. Now the threaded end is in the swashplate, and I can't seem to get it out, so I have to get a new one.
Is this common? More worrisome is the thought of something this weak breaking in-flight!! Any problems with this? Did I just get a weak one, or is there a better pivot bolt that these can be replaced with? Any suggestions would be helpful!

Thanks!

Jeeez, thats not too impressive. Why do they use plasitc balls on a 50 size heli anyways?! I have heard of logo10s crashing because of swash balls breaking. I would get a metal swash just to feel safe.

Helifool - The Logo 20 kits come with an aluminum swash, not plastic like the 'regular' Logo 10 kits.

I've heard of some problems with the Logo 10 plastic swash balls at high head speeds doing 3D stuff. However, I've never heard of any problems with the aluminum swash balls breaking in flight.

When I installed mine, I just snugged them up and gave a little tweak, but that's it. As much as it sucks, I don't think there's a good way to get a broken bolt out. I know, I've been there (though it was a result of crash damage).

At $80 a pop, they're certainly not cheap.

Hey Helifool,

These pivot bolts/balls are actually metal...but apparently not very strong metal. The manual does warn to "Tighten the pivot bolts carefully. Do not overtighten them, as they will break off.", but as I said...I realy didn't put much pressure on it at all. Obviously I will put almost no pressure on the next one, but I just thought someone might have come up with a stronger substitute that would be more durable and less likely to fail.

If you have access toa machine shop they can drill and tapped it out, and you can buy new pivot bolt #1004. I had one broke on me last year. I took it o my machine shop slowly drilled out the stud and installed the new bold. Yes, it took about an hour work, but it saved me $80.

The bolts breaking off is not a common occurrence. It sounds like the bolt itself was weak. I have never had problems with the ball bolts on the metal swashplates. Maybe you can contact the distributor and get a replacement?

I barely tweaked mine and also snapped a bolt off. I ended up drilling it out and install a more robust pair of balls (opposite each othe) from a Hirobo bird. I noticed that the bolt diameter is reduced prior to the threaded part which would be a weak link. I hadn't even really snugged up the bolt when it snapped. I've noticed a lot of the logo hardware is not as strong as other helicopters.

Thanks estevens,
I'll try the Hirobo balls. They do look more sturdy. You wouldn't happen to remember which part number they were do you?
