My Radio is a JRXP8103DT PCM and I'm in the process of installing a Gy401/9253.
I shaved off the tabs on both connectors (one with a single wire and the other).
Here's my question:
To avoid screwing up the electronics of the Gyro and before I fire this thing up, how are the connectors oriented? Blue wire up/down on the three wire connector, yellow wire up/down on the single wire connector.
The manuals aren't much help and I tried the search engine to avoid a repeated question.

Thanks for any info.

The yellow wire is a Signal Wire
It goes up top
at least on mine.
should be the same on yours.
I can't remember all the colors on the other connectors.
Red is in the middle and Black is the bottom
Look at the connectors that are in there and you will notice a pattern .
brown or black is ground Bottom
Red or orange is power Middle
White or yellow is Signal.

Answer- And A Special Caution

The Futaba GY-401 has three leads comming off of it. Believe it or not, most people only concern themselves with the two male leads since they have to "shave the plastic lip" off it. In reality, you should be more concerned with the female lead.

The reason for this extra concern is that the two male leads will only fit into a JR receiver one way. This is due to the fact that JR uses two beveled edges on their servo plugs. The newer Futaba J plugs (as used on the GY-401) have two "JR type" bevelded edges molded in. This is since Futaba knows a lot of people use Futaba gyros/servos with JR receivers. If you try to plug the male leads into a JR receiver the wrong way, they wont go in.

Now for the really scary part... If you take your JR tail rotor servo and plug it into the FEMALE lead of the GY-401 gyro the wrong way, you will fry the gyro and/or the servo and/or the receiver. Here is the problem. Since the standard Futaba J plug is a rectangle with the little plastic tab on side. The Futaba FEMALE plugs MUST BE perfect rectangles. That means you WILL BE ABLE TO PLUG A JR TAIL ROTOR SERVO INTO THE FUTABA FEMALE LEAD THE WRONG WAY. Since the JR plug relies on the beveled edge, by pluging the JR male into a Futaba FEMALE, there is nothing to prevent you from plugging it in backwards.

Now that I have that out of the way, let me explain the colors on the three Futaba GY-401 leads. The short female lead has three wires, a black (negative power), red (positive power) and greenish blue (signal). The long lead splits into two male leads (one with a black male plug and one with a red male plug). The red male plug has only one yellow wire on it. That yellow wire is a "signal" wire and should be plugged in so that the wire is on the "signal" side of the JR receiver. The black male plug has a black (negative power), red (positive power) and greenish blue (signal). Just be sure to plug it in so that the greenish blue wire is on the signal side of the JR receiver. You should not have a problem with the the two male plugs since they already have the beveled edges.

I hope this helps to answer your question. Also remember... There are several of us who fly at the Brea (Suzuki) site and are only a few minutes from you. I am sure you can find someone (including myself) to give you a hand if you ask.
