KSJ

Here is a pic of the sad remains; I'm surprized how small the needle bearings really are. If you look closely at the "cone" part center left you can see the "threads" cut into the part by the wand slipping in it. BTW this is a different wand and has a relief cut in it for set screws. The clamping system certainly needs more "grunt"....or as I plan, the use of shaft lock Loc-tite to stop this.

I use the KSJ setup with my freya with an ys80 in it and haven't had any problems, yet. I did have a little slipage when I first bought it but took some 120 grit and roughed up the starter shaft end just enough to give it a little bite. I haven't had any problems since. Even when one of my engines gets flooded it doesn't slip.

KSJ

I just visited [ www.rotor.com.sg ] and they list a completely different KSJ starter system...# KSJ 239 and another KSJ # 095. If you go there and check out the #239 you will see they have eliminated the problem, it appears that there are set screws that hold the shafts in place...... no clamping system!! This must be a later version...can't see that they would go to the one I have after that one. Maybe they are "dumping" all the "old style" types over here? I think that the fix in my case would be to drill and tap holes for set screws, then cut a relief on the shafts to accept the set screws.....that would hold these suckers in place!!!

KSJ Bearing Witness Protection???????

Well, this really SUCKS!!! I have been looking for a replacement one-way bearing [ NTN NHF 10 ] for my KSJ starter system,( BTW, it was only used for about 3 wks.) well TAKE NOTICE; If you are considering getting one of these expensive paper weights~~~think again!!! I found out through a local bearing dealer that yes, NTN right here does manufacture this part; BUT-BUT they can't sell me one!!!!
This friggin' bearing is in the "BEARING WITNESS PROTECTION PROGRAM"!!!!!!!! HUH???
It seems that KSJ has exclusive rights to this bearing and only they can get it!!! So, if you buy one of these starter systems and you break a part......forget about it........you can only buy the complete unit. I have sent 2 e-mails to KSJ and have only recieved receipts (BTW, only in Japanese) and NO replys.
Now that's customer service!!! I guess they figure they have you by the short hairs.(Aparently they DO) So, now that I have vented.......thanks for nothing KSJ.........shove your over priced Purple crap up your "protected" one-way bearing. I won't be going down this road again.

After I fixed the part from the starter to the KSJ, now the upper part which holds the hex shaft and the shaft from the one way bearing. It's the shiny conical part with the 2 screws. The hex shaft is tight but the other side is cmpletely loose. Now I have 3 pieces.

I just looked at your pic a little further down (or up ) and I think it's the left part of the two middle ones. It's the top part of the shiny part on the very right. (Does it make sense what I write here ??)

KSJ?

Yep, it makes sense. If you can get some red "sleeve loc" loc-tite that may hold it, clean the shaft well and DON'T get any in the bearings. Other than that, maybe you could drill and tap that piece for a set screw; then make a small flat spot on that short shaft to match the set screw. It's too late for me, but it might save yours.

Nope, I tried loc-tite and it works for a weekend or so. Then it got loose again. I tried JB weld which last about a week. In the meantime it got sooo much slope that I can pull it off even with the screws tighten as much as possible. I gave up on that one.

Now I'm thinking about getting one of those hexshafts w/out bearing which you screw onto the starter directly. Unfortunately I haven't seen those at my LHS yet and the online store don't show pics to verify that it's the correct one. I'll keep looking. Anyway, I want to screw it onto the little shaft after the one way bearing of the KSJ and not directly onto the starter shaft. That way I hope to keep my one way bearing AND have a tight solution all the way to the engine. What do you think? Does anybody know which company has this kind of hexshaft and maybe even the part #?
