What kind of digital video camera would you recommend for an aerial ship?

I will be running the Airfoil Voyager 50 E machine.

I am thinking about picking up a digital video camera for starting some video down the road.

any suggestions on which camera?

how about:

what features do you look for in digital video besides being lite weight?

thanks,
Dean

they both have image stablization....
The sony has remote control -- maybe easier to setup a trigger for it, the canon does not.

any other comments on features I should be looking for?

Dean,

Here's my opinion which is by no means an expert one!

If weight is an issue then obviously the Sony wins.
I assume that they both have the connectivity you require.
Not sure if you will need a remote control, I guess it depends on what you intend to shoot.

The problem with choosing a camcorder on specs alone is you have no idea what the recorded image looks like. So my advice (for what it's worth) is to choose the camcorder that produces the best all round image which includes colour saturation/tone, good colour balance, good light metering, sharpness etc.

Most of these functions will be automatic due to the consumer type of cam you are probably restricted to. That in itself should not be a problem but you do want to know if all the auto functions work as advertised and unless you can test the cams yourself, it would be best to read some test reviews and comparisons.

One last very important thing is that it must be suitable for your camera mount!

I hope this is of some help to you.

JVC

Don't rule out JVC cameras.
I just picked up a DV500 and it shoots GREAT video on Mini DV.
Very light and has a nice imager IMO.

I also have been a died in the wool Sony fan for many years, but after my last Hi-8 took a dump I found out they are not the best cameras anymore. Especially the repair prices.
The shops I talked to all said the JVC gear was the best for durability and repair cost.

Dean, be sure to let us know which cam you buy and how you find it performs in your mount.
