Torkit

I just recieved my Torkit today.( and a greaser) they both look to be a quality tool, a bit expensive, but, what the heck at least I will know that all of those fasteners are tightened equally, whether I'm only half awake or not!-----Barry.
BTW, what would be the best grease to use in "The Greaser"? I read somewhere that you should use "high speed" grease, but would that be OK on the collective(grip) thrust bearings, they don't move that much or even fast at all. I have some White lithium grease, is that OK for all the bearings? Or can someone "slide" me in the right direction? Thanks-----Barry.

Whilst browsing the web yesterday, I came accross this page:
http://www.nachos.demon.co.uk/greaser.htm
which someone else did on the greaser. It shows you how to use it etc. and some nice big piccies of it.

greaser and torkit

I also have both tools. the torkit was first, after I had stripped out a few cases overtorquing some backplate screws, I bought the device and all has been great ever since. since these cases were costing me alot of money, I see it as a good investment... okay its also a 'cool' tool.

As for the greaser I just got one and used it on my first heli kit, a raptor. It worked just like the instructions say. the grease I use for it was give to me by the man who makes them. he said to use 76 Lubricants Company's "Multiplex EP Grease 2".

The only tip I can offer right now is that I did all my bearings at once. this let me make just one 'mess' and get all of the greasing out of the way. the neat part was how I kept up with what bearing was what. I took a plastic parts box, you know the clear plastic ones with a snap lid, wrapped up the bearings in wax paper and placed each type of bearing into is own 'bin'. I then labeled each bin with the part number of the bearing it contained. when I needed a certain bearing I just looked up what I needed and got it out of the container. Also its not necessary to wrap up all of the bearings as seperate. If you have 3 of bearing 'a' and five of bearing 'b' then just wrap up all of your a's together and all of your b's together....you get the picture. I also marked the parts list with the size of the bearing so I could double-check myself easily and know that I had the right bearing by just simply measuring the bearing.

Happy Flying!

I am thinking of getting the raptor with the extra bearings. I belive someone said that to start with, the original grease on the bearings is best, and not to bother replacing it with other grease. Can someone confirm this?

raptor bearing grease question

The way I've heard is that you should 'pack' the bearings with grease. If there is any existing grease in the bearing, I've been told its for shipping/storage protection only and not meant to be a 'wear' grease. If you have the "greaser tool" then its not really hard. It took me about an hour to do all of the bearings on my raptor kit. Just start with the smallest and work up to the largest. I do know three reasons for bearing failure are wear, rust, and contamination. Rust has been my biggest enemy so far. If someone else has some wisdom to impart, let's hear it. Ideas never hurt, only actions hurt!
