I am struggling (slightly) with a brushless mod for main & tail. I have tried the 3020 prop and it just isn't quite enough. The nose drifts slowly to the left even with full right rudder. I am using a CC-10 ESC on a Feigao brushless motor. I have tried the timing at both medium and high, and neither one works. The throttle is set to fixed - auto throttle doensn't work either. The gyro is a Telebe with the gain set to 100% in HH mode. What would be the next bigger prop (or two sizes) and a good source for purchase? Thanks for any input or sugestions.

Well your timing should be set to standard advance, your throttle is correct at fixed. You should use a 4530 prop. As for the telebee gyro dont know anything about it but I use a Futaba GY240.

Here is an old pic of mine I have since upgraded to a microheli frame.

Try the 4530 GWS black prop. This comes with the GWS DD tail set.

On the CC10 ESC if the throttle is set to fixed, wouldn't that keep the motor from changing rpm when needed? If that is what it does then you need to figure out how to get it set to auto throttle. I'm just guessing as I don't have one of these ESC but it sounds like you need to get the ESC set up right first before you use it....

Tom..... No "D" flying....

CBC,
We had the same problem until we went with the 4530 GWS black prop

Thanks for the replies - I tried the GWS 4530 today, and had the same poor results. It is better, but still not quite enough hold. Any other suggestions?

Tail motor not getting enough juice. Those props should be ok otherwise. Look into your setup and see what is limiting power. Perhaps the motor is shot. They are not immune to breaking down.

Your head speed may also be too high. Bring it down to 2000-2200. So check your pitch situation and pinion combos.

If your running a feigao tail motor with a phoenix 10 the problem is in your progrmming the esc or the gyro.

I've got the phoenix 10, gy240 and fuegeo 12mm with 4530 prop.

here is the trick that I've shared with a few others with the same setup. its all about software/firmware version and settings.

Here it goes...

This is the Phonix Link Version (V2.12)
The ESC version is 1.22

When I first start the application, I get this message box because I have Auto-Update enabled. I simply answer "No" everytime...probably should change that option...

The Basic Tab

The Advanced Tab

The Software Tab

Let me know how it goes....I would update/downdate the phoenix link software and then change the ESC version.

Best of luck

here is how it flies...nothing great but you get the idea that the tail is good.

Thanks! I'll try the firmware (just ordered) hopefully that will help. I'll also check my head speed. I have changed so many things recently I don't remember what it is.

For those with tail blade rpm problems at center stick....this setup also solves that. I have maybe 34 nose right dialed in on sub trim (JR6102 TX). That's not much considering how much subtrim range is available.

any flying in that last vid takes only slight stick moves...almost simply thought.

I've had this little micro heli for 18 months and its been through several changes. The final change from a cheaper esc to an easily programmable one was the final touch.

Himax 2015 3600 w/9t pinion and (Cheap)venom 20A esc and Eflite CF mains.

GWS 6ch RX

GY240 -> phoenix 10 -> fuageo 12mm 4100kv with 4530 GWS prop on GWS addaptor but with stock motor mount rounded out to fit the motor.

I use TP1320 batteries and average 18min of flying

temps after continuous 18min of circuits as in the vid...

Battery, ESC's, motors are all under 100 degs. infact, the ESC's arn't even warm and the tail motor is barely perceptable as more than ambiant temp.

It's been almost four months now with this setup and I fly three times a week in the gym during the winter...maybe a couple more during warmer weather. Each Gym trip is Three batteries burned down.

I've had no issues not related to crashing and have yet to break anything related to the electronics.

I get an occasional glitch...once every couple trips to the gym. I've got four ferite rings coming in the next couple days...one for each of my fliable machines. I hope that clears the glitches....but that's the give and take with cheaper RX's.

PM me if you need any further assistance. I'm more than happy to help.

Use the gyro in heading hold mode only. In other words, do not plug in the sense wire to the #5 gear channel A gain setting of 50 to 60 should work just fine. I've tried the little 6 g Telebee, the next sise up Telebee, the E-Flite G90, and the similar Align gyro. They all worked well. My only complaint is the durability of the Telebee.

I've only used the 3020 prop and I've had no issues with tail control. Over the past several years, I have worn out two of the brushless tail motors and I've had one CC ESC fail (replaced by CC).

I've had two gyros fail because of too many crashes, two fail just out of pure spite, and worn out two MicroHeli heads and swashplates.

I have so many flights on my BL-equiped HB CP2 and my MicroHeli airframe that I've stopped counting. My original Blade CP has been retired.

I am running a Phoenix 10, Feigao brushless and gy401 on my tail.

I started with the 3020 props but they kept falling off. I just switch over to the 4530 and that problem has one away.

My 3020 could not quite hold the tail I really gave it full pitch it drifted slightly. I have about 10 flights with the 4530 and so far it has solved any hold issues I had. My current worry is now heat driving that tail seems to make the whole thing run hot.

My phoenix 10 worked out of the box no need for firmware update.

Most of the default helicopter settings in the manual for the CC-10 worked for me.
-Turn off hard braking
-drop the cutoff voltage as low as you can
-set cutoff to soft
-normal timing
-set the startup to fast

I would also verify your gyro is in HH and gain set properly. All of my problems was because I did not know how to properly set up my gyro on my radio. I had the gain all wrong and/or had it in the wrong mode. Once I figured out my gyro I was good to go.
